What people misses with the green wall, those trees will drop it leaves and those leaves will become dirt and make the soil less sandy over time which will enrich the soil.

There are similar efforts going on in Iceland and pockets of the Scottish Highlands. Once you clear _all_ the land, it becomes very difficult to grow anything again and requires a gradual process of pioneer plants creating shelters for larger trees and such to be able survive the early stages of their life cycle. In a metaphorical sense, it requires momentum.

We've been doing similar projects in BC Canada, but to lesser success. As a result of poor management we get a wildfire season every summer. The trees are planted but the worst is the lack of smaller shrubbery and bushes to augment the trees. I can foresee a day in South America where all of the monocropping goes straight to hell in a big fire. The good thing is the natural trees there grow really fast same with the shrubs California stopped burning their shrubbery and as a result the growth during the dry season catches fire easily - burning shrubbery to keep it manageable is one of the best things a society can do as it prevents forest fires (these have to be controlled fires that can be extinguished)

@@EndoftheBeginning17 Oh, darn. Was there a lot of historical clear-cutting in Canadian history? I am not very familiar with their history.

@@EndoftheBeginning17 Those trees aren't being monocropped for what it's worth. There's a selection of native species that are seeded in an intermixed pattern. And just in general in this region permaculture has seen quite a bit more success than monocropping due to the harsher conditions.

The Andrew Millison videos that Geega mentioned are really cool visualizations of how much and what type of work there is to be done.

Monoculture is why a large portion of china's own green wall died out due to desease.

China stopped doing the monoculture thing a long time ago. They want a better environment, and they have the biologists, economists, and other experts to work out a sustainable process to achieve that.

That's not the reason as to why Africa is depicted smaller than it actually is
