This is my review of the Gemini CDMP-7000 recorded in late 2014. Never got around to uploading this, but better late than never. Let me know what you think.
Would you recommend this to someone trying to move away from midi controllers?

Personally I would recommend the Numark NDX series for that. I had a pair of NDX 400s for about 3 years and they were mostly perfect the whole time. Way more reliable, but with less features. When I sold mine, they were going for around $100 used about 2 years ago. I'd imagine there are lots of them around still. The newer version, the NDX 500 I believe, has the same features, but with Serato control integration built in. If you don't mind 2 decks and a separate mixer, it'd be hard to beat this.

would you say the bpm estimates are accurate? I know its good to learn by ear but I've only just started learning, plus im trying to mix more upbeat tunes like baseline and dub which are obviously a lot harder...

orange70000 i mix dnb, typically bpm counters are hit and miss for dnb. for 4x4 beats usually most things should be ok. i didnt test anything like that with this unit when i had it, but i would assume the bpm counter is mostly eliable.

+orange70000 Baseline should be 100% fine since it:s 4x4. Dub could be challenging. I mix DNB so I would say it was mostly fine, but when it's off it's way off. IMO at this price point I think a Pioneer Serato controller would be better. That's why I ultimately swapped to.

do you still have this? of so hows it holding up?

No, I returned it. I got a Pioneer DDJ-SX. It was open box so the price ended up pretty close. I wasn't willing to live with the speed issue I had. Outside of that I thought this was a sick alternative.

Dwight Staine No you have to buy the Serato SL box which can cost up to $300. This controller isn't really worth it. I'd go for something else like the Denon MCX8000

Firmware 4.7 fixes the problem

Had I known there was a firmware fix I would have atleast tried it out. But it's not a good sign when you buy a product and it has a bug that breaks the core feature. For the record, I don't use the sync button. It mostly doesn't work with DNB anyway.

you're probably right. i recorded this in 2014 and i dont have the gear nor the original recordings to make it better. it has a lot of features and i gave my conclusion at the end without music playing. hopefully that helps.

I've was lucky enough to only spend $150 on this controller, and from the experience I had, I went through pure frustration. Don't even think about buying it, Especially for the retail price. I was unlucky for not being able to return it.

so pretty much this is garbage

Woa, I wouldn't go that far. It's hard for me to say all CDMP-7000 decks are garbage when I have only touched 2 units. Personally I'm not willing to gamble hundreds of dollars to find out if I'll get a good one. I think reliability is the key issue. I have used Gemini mixers and had no problems. It appears to be more of the software rather than the components. Gemini could fix this and make a CDMP-7100 with the same feature set that could be amazing. Shots out to Gemini if you're reading and want to send me a demo unit. I would be more willing to take a chance buying this from a vendor with a good return policy or from a friend.
