I remember when those strands from JTV were for sale . I bought one at that time and later I found it online for sale and bought another. That was just the best. I could not believe all of the best gemstones were in that box. 😊😍

Suggestion, wash the tanzanite strands with gentle hand detergent and water. Not soap but a detergent like the Softsoap brand. Hopefully that will reduce the odor quicker. You got some really beautiful gem stones. I’m looking forward to seeing some in future tutorials, maybe as an optional item. Thanks for showing your buys.

Haven't had a keyboard for the past month or so, so couldn't comment earlier. We have the same taste in Jewel School items! Those tanzanite chips have VERY tiny holes, and tanzanite is a pretty soft stone (5 on the Mohs scale), so be careful when you're working with those chips---I've broken a bunch while tightening a wire wrap. Still, they were a good deal! (Mine didn't have an off-odor----maybe it was the string they were strung on? Or a maybe the original shipping carton they were packed in, when they came from overseas? Who knows how often those things must need fumigating??) I also have the same nugget collection, also very happy with it, and can't wait to see what you make with them. I've been watching Jewel School since its inception, and have learned a lot from them! I've learned a lot from you, too, so MANY, MANY THANKS!!

Stones that are dyed can have a smell to them. On occasion, companies will dye their stones to make them look darker. I hope that wasn't done with the Tanzanite. You got a super deal on the Larimar though. That mineral is really going up in price now because of it being mined for so long. Its only found in the Dominican Republic and high quality beads that are pure blue and white are really expensive (which you found out). Either way, it's a good investment since the mines won't last forever. Also, you may want to check out Mookaite Jasper. It's found in Australia and wow, it's beautiful! It comes in swirls of cream, purple, yellow and orange. I've done several bracelets with them and the colors make them so fun to put together.

I know it's been some time since you made this video. But, I am so glad I came across it. I have been looking at the Lima bead store site. And found some really great deals, but I had never heard of them, & I don't usually buy from sites I've never heard of. So it seemed as if you were happy with their service & their beads. If anything has changed please let me know. I will be ordering what I picked in the next few days. Thanks so much for sharing.

From Gemology Online..I came across an interesting Gem Note in the Journal of Gemmology 2014, Volume 34/ No.1. Mercaptans in Tanzanite from Merelani Tanzania- A New Type of Stinkstone? Stinkstein or stinkstone is a term used to describe foul odors certain rocks and minerals exude when they are scratched or broken. These are commonly caused by putrid smelling volatiles, trapped inside fluid inclusions. Examples include: 1. The bituminous smell from petroleum bearing inclusions in Herkimer Diamonds 2.Fluorine compounds in a dark purple fluorite from Bavaria, often referred to as stinkspar. And, Finally what this post is really about: 3. The recently reported "rotten egg" odor of hydrogen sulphide in untreated zoisite from Merelani. H2S is present in fluid inclusions in the tanzanite, and along with some other chemicals called mercaptans, the odors have been further described as "decaying animals", "rotten cabbage" and "stinky socks" The concentration for the stinkoids (I made that word up) can be as low as 1 ppb in air. :smt078 Heating not only improves tanzanite's color but apparently destroys the stinkies.

Imagine you attend a function... a charming stranger approaches you... they say. "You're beautiful, but...(wrinkles their nose slightly) what stinks?" You smile demurely and say, "Thank you, but it isn't me... it's my jewelry." Well done on your haul. Why not try just washing the strands gently in a mild detergent and cool water? Have fun with your treasures.😊

Just wanted to tell you I hope you never put them in some sort of alcohol or peroxide because the color wheel disappeared half those so-called gemstones they are the chips but they're the stuff they usually throw away and they've been died that's why they smell have a nice one
