The reason the starter wouldn't work is because the armature gear is too long and hit the cover. Earlier versions had a shorter armature gear.

Bro, DO NOT reuse the oil cooler. The small metal bits that was contaminated in the old oil is inside that oil cooler. It will contaminate the new oil and damage the new motor. REPLACE THE OIL COOLER. Clean out all the oil hises you are reusing.
