@@gorsich1 Hey! I got a quick question to ask, so for mutation I-, if lac operon is always on. Isnt it a good thing for the cell? Now it can obtain energy from both glucose and lactose simultaneously? Or is it bad? I cant find valid sources for this..
@gorsich1
5 жыл бұрын
@@rallygozzy9206 Good question.. It is easy for us to test whether or not certain operons are activated in certain conditions, but I guess it's more difficult to test the question you asked. In one sense it does seem more efficient to just turn on both operons. But then the argument might be to keep every metabolic operon on always. Like all cells, bacterial cells are these little bags of metabolic reactions that have to be as energy efficient as possible. It wouldn't be a good use of energy to activate operons not needed (let alone all metabolic operons all the time). Also, remember that metabolizing glucose is the most efficient sugar to metabolize (for most bacteria). It may be more difficult to test the question you asked, but as I think about it, evolution has already tested this (so to speak). If it was more competitive to have all operons on then it is likely that is what bacteria would have been selected to do. You've given me a good idea for an exam question though :)

Is lactose permease transport lactose or glucose into the cell which is product of lactose?
@gorsich1

Lactose permease allows lactose to enter the cell. There are other channels that allow glucose to enter the cell.

How about the lac Iq mutation?
@gorsich1
3 жыл бұрын
Good question. The laclq mutation is interesting. This mutation is in the promoter region, and unlike the promoter mutations discussed in my video, this mutation increases the lac operon expression. With this mutation, one would predict a higher expression of the lac genes. However, if lactose is absent, the increased expression would not be as strong compared to growth in the presence of lactose.

Thank you for your explanation
@gorsich1

@@izhamsyahmi275 I should have also added that the reason you see higher expression is because the mutated sequence has a higher affinity to the RNA polymerase.

The definition of Is is wrong... It is taken as a mutation where the repressor is not produced.
@samoleulmi990

Not wrong : we have two situation : 1- the reprosser is not functional Or 2- is not produced
