I love Gene. And it hurts to see him in this stage of life... a chubby broken man due to alcohol abuse. The pain from his injured leg troubled him until the end...and he never got over the loss of his friend Eddie Cochran.

I understand how you feel. But while Gene is chubby here he’s hardly Fat Elvis. There’s still character and handsomeness in that face. Of course, the pain and the pills he took for it, mixed with the drink, didn’t make him long for this world.

Vincent only had 2 songs in top 20 US charts, not enough for a good rocker to compete the teen idols at the time. In 1959 he went to UK, wore all black leather and was a star in Europe. I have a French music magazine JUKEBOX and it quotes a Dec 63 Disco Revue survey of France's top 14 favorite foreign singers: 1- G Vincent, 2- Eddie Cochran(died 1960) 3- Elvis, 4-Vince Taylor(born in US, lived in UK and like Gene, dressed in black), 5- Buddy Holly(died 1959).This was how high France rated Vincent, above Elvis!. France's top 3 were: Eddy Mitchell, Dick Rivers & Johnny Hallyday: Yes French singers who took English names and that's how RnR was born in France.
