Sorry what I meant to say was there are a lot of video on KZitem of flying in. So O really enjoyed your video as there isn’t much content on camping under the wing. So your video rocked! Love to see more of this topic from your experience. I am really enjoying your videos and if I make to Osh hope to meet you!

Jainbrae I’ll try to get one out on what to bring and what not to. This one was meant to show what to expect in the aircraft camping area and getting around there - some of the things we didn’t really know about before getting there our first time that we wished we’d known more about.

It would be great if there was an organised initiative to partner non aviation participants with eaa members flying into Oshkosh. As an example - I’d love to fly into the USA, meet and stay with somebody, fly with them to Oshkosh and pay all the fuel and entry fees. It would be an awesome partnership and both parties would benefit.
@PlaneLady

That would be an interesting suggestion to share with EAA

I loved the environment, but the F-35s in A/B were way, way, way, way too loud. That part was not fun. They need to have mufflers. But it was very cool to look up many times through the day and see P-51s, other warbirds, rare planes, a B-17, B-24, etc. etc. Way cool.

FYI, for those that are staying in hotels North of the airport and driving, be advised that South Koeller Street is closed at the intersection of Hiway 44 near the Hardee's. You will have to go South on Hiway 41 to the Rosendale Hiway 26 exit 113, cross the hiway and come in from the South. Be prepared for a long walk from the far reaches of the Gray lot just to get to the shuttle bus. The Blue lot fills up fast. Next time we will be renting an RV and coming in the week before. On site there are lots of shuttles going various places in town, like shopping etc. Maybe bring a bike to use to get from the far end of RV camping to the bike parking near the main entrance.

All excellent advice! It's a lot easier to push/pull the plane out of the spot it's been in while camping if you've placed solid wood planks under the wheels. Some people use heavy nylon or carbon-fiber cutting boards as well. That's fine, if you trust them not to snap. As for wood, square planks about 1x1 ft square and 1" thick are ideal. Even 1ft x ½ft x 1" is fine-they're just a little harder to get the wheels onto. In any case, even when it rains a lot the boards will keep the plane from sinking into the grass/mud.
@etdey

You can get 3/4" thick cutting nylon boards that don't have the same risk of snapping as the normal ones.

Thanks Plane Lady. That was a great overview of where the camping is and the "facilites" and that they are well maintained and available. I like to avoid the "rush" and nights can be a good time..especially when the nights are humid and a shower helps ya cool off!
@PlaneLady

mike fromuniontown we like to do the same thing normally because I’ve had mornings where I only waited 5 minutes for a stall and mornings where I’ve waited 45 minutes for one. That’s why it’s so nice that they have a light inside for those hopping in at night!

Christine, this will be my first cross country to Osh! Am I excited??? YES! Am I apprehensive (ok, a little bit) (don't screw up don't screw up don't screw up!, land on the dot!!) LoL I DO plan on bringing a tent and my guitar! And nope I lOVE the sound of a P-51, a P-38 AND anything with a radial engine! :-) The only thing that concerns me is the potential for potty pandemonium, and perhaps taking a shower? Although its just me (solo) and as long as I can stand myself, I'm doing ok! No one goes to Osh cause they think its a beauty pageant! Yes! I will NOT forget the bug spray! And I want to see the evening STOL competition too! See you there?

Very useful tips. You must've been a row or two over from where we camped, last year. Aiming for a similar camping spot, in a few days (7/23). See you there!
@gevmage

This is fantastic! I've camped at Oshkosh many times since 2004 (mostly by car, twice flying in), and everything you said is spot on. I haven't camped in the south 40, but I camped in vintage aviation camping which is just a bit closer to show center from there. It was fine; it was nice being closer to the center of things, but as far as I could tell there wasn't a shower house on the south half of the field, so the north 40 is vastly superior in that regard. Thanks so much! This is great! I'll be checking out your other videos.

@@PlaneLady Is this new? I'm sure when I flew in in 1999 from BC in Canada with my friend , neither of us where EAA members....can remember no beer on sale on a Sunday and the 95% humidity -make sure you have lots of mosquito repellant I counted over 100 bites one night. Won't mention the other events that happened on that trip - like being refused entry to the USA, being the last plane to land, having made the control point with 10 seconds to spare, before the afternoon airshow started etc, etc. .
