I saw a soldier kneeling down, for this was the first quiet place he had found. He had traveled through jungles, rivers and mud He'd tasted sweat and shed his blood. He folded his hands and looked to the sky I saw his tears, as they welled in his eyes. He spoke to God, and this is what he said "God Bless my men, who now lie dead; I know not what You have in mind, but when You judge them, please be kind when they come before You, they will be poorly dressed but they'll walk proudly, for they have done their best. Their boots will be muddy and their clothes all torn but these clothes they have so proudly worn. Their hearts will be still and cold inside, for they have fought their best and did so with pride. So please take care of them as they pass Your way the price of freedom they've already paid."

Howdy Robert! The words in brackets got my attention! I don't know the US-History in details, and even less the tribal history of your redskins. But it makes me curious... I knew there was a confederation of 5 Iroquois tribes and up to today I thought that was the only federal state of native origin. Now you write about a Confederation of Cherokees... Do the Cherokees consist of different tribes? How did William Holland Thomas become their Chief? Was he a Melungeon? According to his name, his Father was of Dutch origins, wasn't he? Was his Mom a squaw or daughter of a squaw or so? Isn't the title of "Chief" hereditary? Was he descendant of a Cherokee Chief? That all sounds pretty unusual and interesting for me, I would really like to learn more about it!

May I try to help you out of that regret? ;-) Do you know that some young guys regret having signed? Are you aware of all the painful drill and the brainwashing teaching methods you have been spared from? For example: Would you like to be put into a russian or arabic language course which doesn't take 3 years but 3 months only, but in these 3 months they teach you a complete language far beyond the level of the 3 years elsewhere and that from 7 in the morning to 17 (with half an hour for lunch at noon) in the evening and after dinner you gotto learn your massive vocabulary and all the time you always feel hungry, you always are lacking time to sleep and every morning a CPL or a SGT shocks you out of bed at 5 a.m. (in some companies it may be half past 5, but it doesn't really make a difference, you always feel the lack of sleep and food and you always feel groggy the whole 3 months of your initial course through)? Some ask themselves if they have signed a slavetreaty instead of an armed forces contract, see what I mean? Even slaves may have to work from sundawn to sunset, but after sunset they have time to sleep at least... ;-) You can esteem yourself lucky if you don't turn nuts before the exams in such units! And if you fail at the exams, you will never become anything more than P1C... The first term is quite a pain! Ask those who were "leathernecks" why they have this nickname, it is not for nothing! It is not for laughing or for fun either! ... It's for those dutytimes and other malicious rules as: Wakeupsignal at 5 a.m., breakfast at 6, orders of the day at 6:30, duty starts at 7, lunch is from 12 to 12:30, duty goes on til 17, dinner is at 17:30 h, from 18 on until 21 or 22 learning vocabulary in the company rooms, followed by tiding up, then SGTs ctrl. until 22:30, at least 23 and after a short sleep at 5 wakeupsignal again and so on... This lifestyle goes on for minimum 13 weeks! It feels more like a punishment than something you are paid for! To serve in special units always means to suffer in a special way more than others! See what I mean? Don't regret things you can't imagine how cruel they are! Instead here is my tip: Learn russian slowly and well and then get a copy of Alyexandyer Solshyenityns book with this title: Odin dyen' v zhisna Ivan Dyennissovitsha Once you have read this, you may feel better with your actual situation, very likely! And then get a copy of this book from Nikolay Gogol: Revisor Just the "Revisor" is worth all the work of learning russian, it is sooo funny, you will ROFL, promised! ;-)

When I always hear our Corps Hymn played slowly.. It gives me goose bumps. I envision men in ww2 storming iwo jima, men saving each other at the chosin res, in Vietnam battling in the jungle, all those past Marines who never got the chance to be honored I hope we as a nation are doing the best we can to honor All Marines but especially those whom never got a proper salute and gratitude from this nation.. I am proud to be part of a brotherhood with these great men.. Its a honor and a high privilege which I will never forget or dishonor. Semper Fi General. Thanks for years of dedication to country and Corps.. See ya at the gates. "hand salute" er rah!

My parents lived out in the middle of no where. 2 hours from any town of size. But they had an airport that was built by a rich man who flew up to see his daughter. My mother wanted it small, but since my father retired with 2 Stars, the Army thought otherwise. My Brother, myself and my Nephew all uniformed officers. Men who served with my father from Korea to Vietnam showed up, and about a company of soldiers and helicopters for a fly by. Many senior officers as well. This runway was filled with planes and helicopters just for this send off. I have always felt proud of the military on how it treats it's Veterans.

"My mother wanted it small," LOL! Sorry, Colonnel, I meant a :-) ... But honestly, that shows a modestity of character, I mean, your Mom has a sense for keeping both feet on the earth insted of becoming an arrogant "nose-up-SNOB" and that makes her sympathetic in my eyes (although I don't know her, really). She probably was very tired at the end of the day, sure, but you know what? That likely helped her to fall asleep instead of weeping the whole night through... So finally I think it was ok for her too at the end of the day, wasn't it?
