The Sheriff cars deserve a mention too. I remember one we blew up the day before thanksgiving the first season. One of the boys (supposedly) shot an arrow carrying a stick of dynamite into Roscoe's car sitting across a road by a farm. There was a friendly horse in the paddock that we could not get to go away. But we were losing light so ... BOOM!. The horse ran and ran circles in that paddock. I remember the date because we had Thanksgiving off. The day after Thanksgiving we shot part of Daisy's Song in Downtown Atlanta. When I rigged the lights on the car, I put the batteries in the trunk only to notice that the car had been burned out. Over thanksgiving, you guys repainted reglazed, reupholstered, put on new tires, and replaced the interior. The trunk was the only evidence of two days before. That was an impressive feat!

I had a friend that lived next to the corner of Ledge Ave and San Fernando Rd. South in Sun Valley, adjacent to Burbank. His family ownd alot of income properties, across the street was Old Trappers Lodge ( the grandfathers ) that Lookheed eventually bought. Next to him was a business whose fenced lot had about 15 General Lees crammed into it. I think it was around the later seasons when I was about 20. They were some of the cars they used in the Dukes of Hazzard. Around the corner on Clyburn Ave is where Jay Leno has his car collection today.

I can't believe that a guy who worked on the original TV cars is driving around in one with an orange panel on the back. It's just so wrong. John Schneider mentioned about one of the reunion shows they did where they used one with an orange panel in one scene, but he saw it and pointed out to the crew that it was wrong and they gave it a quick paint job to fix it.

Funniest part about the General Lee was they actually had made the choice to use the Chevelle as the General Lee and the only thing that stopped them dead in their tracks was the cost per car. Chevelle's were pretty popular and they cost more per car than the studio wanted to pay. 68-70 Dodge Chargers were pretty cheap and plentiful and the budget they set per car completed as a General Lee was $1500 - $1700 and that included the purchase cost.

@@clabszero I believe you. I bought a '69 Charger R/T in 1980 for $50. The owner wanted $75 but he couldn't fine the title so we agreed on $50.It was a beautiful rust free body and had a lot of options like A/C and disc brakes. But it didn't run. A year later I bought a running 69 Charger 383 for $500.

they should make a kit car to replicate the 1969 Charger. the General Lee has been my dream car since about 4 years old, but by the time I was old enough to drive, they were already super rare. I don't even care if it has the grille of the 500 instead of the r/t, the wrong color interior, and no roll bar, it would still be close enough for me to die a happy man.
