I am dreaming of a day where Ableton will add these tools to Ableton Note. That would make it the ultimate idea generation app.

That’s an interesting idea, I never used that app. How’s your experience with it?

its fun but could definitely use such tools, its basically a sketch pad@@impulsecontrol

@@impulsecontrol it's a pretty cool sketch pad and the projects open up in Live with native devices. But to me with the current feature set it feels like a 'making a beat/loop' tool which to be fair is a decent starting point to take into Live later. As is the case with most mobile apps though, tapping in notes/drums on a screen can be frustrating and having to use a MIDI controller to me kind of defeats the true mobility. Hence my dream of some MIDI tools to help with idea generation, thus eliminating some of the frustration with tapping things in on the screen.

@@chinidadianWell, I guess the main point of this app is just to be a starting point 🤷🏼♂️

@@impulsecontrol for sure. But as you illustrated so well in the video, those Live 12 MIDI tools are another fantastic way to quickly get something inspiring going.

nah, Ableton 12 genrative tools are useless, unless you aim for some very basic things. The algorythms are purely mathematical and just make pure random stuff, without any machine learning behind in order to generate flavored melodies, chords and so on. It's a big no-no.

How do you write melodies and rhythmic patterns?

@@impulsecontrol I mostly play on my keyboard until i rec something i like, but that's not the point. Did you try some AI based generative tools like melody sauce or Unison wizard., or even the generative chord progression in the last FL update ? They make useful and comprehensive patterns based on machine learning, by genre. The ableton 12 algorithm is outdated because you can only pray for it to make small pieces of music that can be used together... If you are very lucky. I'll wait for some 3rd party m4l devs to make something more useful, because the idea behind generative native tools is good.

@@rman4539Haven’t tried those AI tools. But I do think the new MIDI tools would be very useful for most people including myself, It only gives you a starting point, but then you have to edit the MIDI yourself.

I’d take algorithmic generation over AI any day. The former is predictable and can be learned and mastered. The latter is a thinly veiled copying of someone else’s music. AI can remember a ton of data, but you never know where what you get came from. And it’s mostly unpredictable.
