I think it's beautiful that you divide up these videos with presentations of full mixes, giving context to the theory, as opposed to simply just playing it on a piano/guitar/any single instrument. I think this aids with these kinds of harmonic ideas, simply because sometimes when played on one instrument this harmony can become a little too homogenous, or 'stuck together' in certain inversions, or if not that too drawn apart. When spread across the frequency spectrum, especially with voices (the choral examples you gave), it actually starts to sound extremely musical. Anyways, I'm rambling, good good good fancy music.

I enjoy this style of creating. I’ve learned that even when I don’t live the results I can just ask myself “What don’t I like about this?” or “What would I prefer to hear in this bar?” to modify the outcome to something a little more personal while still keeping the freshness of other decisions arrived at randomly.
@dannyhood4007

Record and listen again. You will hear what you don’t like. Most people on this page don’t start improvising over these changes. After 20 play throughs they must remember the chord changes enough to make a solo that fits. Some people inherit music which is a gift. Having a good feel for notes (picking instrument up for first time) with instinctive rhythm already installed. Although I doubt anyone on this page. I could be wrong

Ben, your creativity is so inspiring! This has me brimming with ideas. The challenge I run into when composing these kinds of (non-functional?) chord progressions, or even progressions that have frequent changes, is that it severely constrains the vocal/lead melody. Could you comment on that, or do you discuss that in your songwriting course? Thanks!!

Check out diatonic-symmetric harmony!!! (when the roots of a chord progression are all picked from a diatonic scale, but the chord structures are decided in advance.) The blues, for example is diatonic symmetric because while the roots are all in one key, the chords maintain a dominant seventh structure regardless of the underlying scale. But you can switch up the structures. Like you could do two major seventh chords and then an augmented chord. And then you’d cycle through that. To give the progression more coherence, it’s good to choose the roots based on a single type of root movement. Like just in fifths or thirds.
