That mod is no doubt a must get. I installed this onto my Model 2 Sega MegaDrive. The colours looks phenomenal. The audio improvement blew me away and sounded absolutely incredible, Possibly way better than the Model 1 in my books. This mod was easy to follow. Good work on here with yours.

@@LIRetroGaming Hey thanks, glad you enjoy my runs! But yeah, I've been messing with mods since I've recently changed over to RGB stuff, so I've been doing my own recaps and mod installations. Decided to get a broken Genesis lot to practice TBP installations on, since they're pretty cheap consoles, and seems like a good way to practice since if I mess up, I didn't lose a rare console lol. I ended up using your guide for a VA1 G3 I fixed (bad caps), then ended up with a VA2 G3 and had referenced the Mega amp thread, RetroRGB's site, and random twitter posts that all had different preferences on what components to remove, which just added to the confusion lol. I did end up getting it installed fine, but it would be nice to know why there's inconsistencies like that between installs lol.
@LIRetroGaming
2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly the same problem I have with the TBP installs - you have to hunt for info on twitter and other sites and the info is confusing or missing altogether. That's why I will eventually have videos of all the different models, to demonstrate a successful install. In general I always use the mega amp thread for the info on disconnecting all the audio channels, and lifting pins on the Sony CXA chip to sever RGB. I'll probably film a TBP on a Model 1 next, since there are a few differences with RGB on that console!

I've been avoiding this for a while now. There are so many models of the Genesis, all with their own issues and strengths, that even knowing what problems there are to solve, and whether those solutions create other problems, is kind of daunting.

@@LIRetroGaming Heya so, I ended up doing a couple more TBP installs on VA0, VA1, and VA1.8 model 2's. I had one issue with the VA1 where I installed the TBP, and would only get green. I traced it from the VDP all the way back to the TBP, and no traces are cut on the TBP itself anywhere on those RGB paths. I would randomly also get the screen being completely dark with only "shadows" showing up. I ended up swapping out the TBP board itself with another one, and the issue was completely gone and the VA1 is great. The VA0 was completely headache free and worked first try too. Fast forward to now, I've run into the same problem on this VA1.8 where now I only got red/green on the screen and no blue. I did the same tracing from the VDP back to the TBP board, and ended up reflowing some stuff on the TBP (and even replaced the THS7374), and I got those "shadows" on screen again and it was stuck like that. I decided to do the same thing as last time and swap the whole TBP off with another one, and this time I got immediate shadows again, which was really disappointing. I swapped it out with a 3rd TBP board I have, and now I get only red lol. I swapped the THS7374 (again) and now I got shadows, yet again. Would you have any ideas on what on earth is causing this? I thought I was getting the hang of installing these, but this Genesis is making me think otherwise :/

I had one of these, and I also had a Mac Plus, both of which were basically hand-me-downs from my mom's wealthier friends. I was surprised to learn that they actually both used the same CPU!! :O The Genesis was a TINY fraction of the cost of a Mac Classic or a Mac Plus! The CPU used in the genesis was actually very powerful for a console of its day.

Thanks for this nice tutorial! Do you think that composite video out on a 32X would still work after doing this bypass to the Genesis? I understand it won't work directly from the Genesis console's multi-out, but i think that the RGB signal will pass fine to the 32X. My understanding is that 32X takes the RGB signal and converts it to composite internally.

Hello LIRG, very good video as always I'm getting much and much more into modding retro consoles, and this seems like a intermediate level mod for me, I recently acquired this very same model of genesis myself, seeing your videos I'm prone to buy and install this Triple bypass mod for my console. Sorry for the barrage of questions that come as follows : @14:45, do you happen to know the model solder tip of the hakko, is that fx888d model station? I need a small thin tip as the one you display in that specific part, because I struggle a lot with a wider tip I have on my fx-888d. @same minute mark What model of jumper cable and awg caliber you use? this looks like a sturdy cable, well suited for this mods, I like that the plastic coating is thick, personally I ordered some 30 AWG but I'm not quite pleased with it, it seems very frail, also I see voultar uses the same caliber and maybe the same brand? of jumper cables you use care to share? @same minute mark I see you put the music x68000 in the description, can I have which song is that specifically, or at least the game, so I can search it..... It's soooo soothing and pleasing.

Glad you enjoyed the video! Here are some answers to those questions. I use the T18-D16 soldering tip for most of my work but occasionally I use that smaller tip for some applications. Unfortunately I can't remember the model number of that one. Normally I use 28 gauge copper stranded wire for my installs, although 30 gauge is also useful on occasion. Something like this: www.amazon.com/Pc-Accessories-Connectors-Connector-10P-15FT/dp/B073W9R4R3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2AV4JEWJ1OHXO&keywords=28+gauge+rainbow+wire&qid=1642788969&s=industrial&sprefix=28+gauge+rainbow+wire%2Cindustrial%2C67&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A64W1E1ZZHST0&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE2QzlOU1k0QlFKMEUmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5Nzg0MzUzSk9VMDFLTlcwRDVUJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1ODc2MTQzU0FRNVJYNE42TFU4JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== Lastly that song is called Uranus and it's from the game Spindizzy II on the Sharp X68000. There are some examples of it that you can find on KZitem.
