Slow the f*** down. And you spend as much (or possibly more?) time adding video clips/audio tricks than actually showing the visual of what you are talking about. I totally believe what you are meaning to convey is excellent material but you make it hard to access/process the info.

Cool vid, I just found your stuff recently, you've got good content. I wanna preface this by saying I'm not commenting to be critical or noxious or anything like that, just trying to provide some genuine feedback about the vids, but the whooshing and background sound effects anytime the camera moves are a LOT. Might just be me, but it's genuinely a tiny bit disorienting. If other people enjoy it or it helps the content's performance obviously keep them, just wanted to share my end of things, keep on cooking!

Mixatorials? Goodbyeatorials

I’d argue more music is made these days with synths VSTs and samples then with recording a multi-mic band. Where sample selection and overall glueing of sounds from multiple sources is key and over processing already processed sounds will ruin your mix.

4:42 I think this might be a misconception. Attack and release times are the time it takes to go from no gain reduction to full gain reduction. Think like a fade in and fade out length. It still is immediately reducing gain once the signal is below the threshold.
@Reggi_Sample

I used to think of compression in terms of fade in fade out except that with compression the start is full volume and the end point is attenuation with fade in-fade out it’s the opposite. It does help to conceptualise for beginners and your right about att/rel
@JacobraRecords

Oh I didn't mean thinking of compression in general as fade in and out. What I meant was specifically attack and release times are like fade in/fade out lengths. I don't hear many youtubers talk about this but I learned it in school@@Reggi_Sample

@@JacobraRecords I approach this concept from a speed perspective. When attack or release times are slower, it diminishes the rate at which the volume 'rider' reaches its intended level. Personally, I tend to visualize it in terms of inertia and acceleration, as compressors' gain curves involve more complexity than a simple linear speed. But the core idea remains.

well, its been confirmed an expander is way better than a gate on snares. But I wouldn't eliminated the whole bleed on drums since that bleed tends to be a big part on the drum mix specially if you have room mics. Ive experimented with all this so many times and everything comes down to the same thing....Mic position and mic type. But hey, this was my case. Theres a company not sure if still around (Plug&Mix)im not a real fan of their plugins neither customer service BUT they have an expander plugin that is awesome for percussion and its dirt cheap.

Aaah, the toms...floortom is one thing I struggle with when gating. You have that nice "tuuuuuuuum" tail but always that crash and kick in the end. So what I end up with is either a shot cutoff "tuum" or a long with crash "tuuuuuumPSH". So I go with the short and try to compensate with reverb, end up with a sour face and move on.
