The Sikhs of the Punjab faced two periods of genocide under the Afghans of the Durrani Empire (Kingdom) in the mid 18th Century that saw a large segment of the Sikh population annihilated (killed/wiped out) due to a policy of the removal of all Sikhs who refused to convert to another religion or who opposed the rule of the Afghans.
The earlier oppression of the Sikhs by the Mughuls which led to the formation of the Sikh Khalsa, a militarized militant force fighting for the right to practice Sikhism and to live as Sikhs, free from oppression tells the story of how and why we evolved from mere peasants and farmers into the Khalsa that defeated two Sultanates over the space of 400 years of war and misery.
Avtar Singh presents stories of the past and shares his research in the simplest form possible by telling the stories of our ancestors and their struggles against the invaders.
He is a Sabahan and an active historical researcher.
