As promised, a synthesia tutorial. I've scheduled this to upload in a few hours, and I'll render the tutorial for Shenhe's theme when I get home from work.
ORIGINAL VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Hello, I'm back from the grave.
I was afraid that I would have lost my touch after 2 months of no recording, constant university studies, and no motivation to do anything. However, it seems that I've somehow become even better, which is a relief.
Anyways, I'm finally home! I spent most of yesterday unpacking (untangling cords alone took off several years of my life, rip), but I did spend about an hour trying to create a new setup for my piano (since now I have three lights instead of one lamp!). What you see in the video is the final result: from now on, there's gonna be more c o l o r !
As you can probably tell, I'm trying new things with editing. Tell me if you're a fan of the changes! I personally think this is the best my videos have ever looked. Also, what new VST am I using? Tell me your guesses in the comments below : )
About the piece: hearing it for the first time a day ago, I was instantly hooked on the first section. If I were to describe the feeling with any three words (which I also tried to convey through my playing), it would be festive, bright, and refreshing. In a way, I'm also going through my own rejuvenation, becoming bolder with my usage of new technique. It's so exhilarating when I hear the fruit of my labor, but I'll never forget the behind-the-scenes work behind every video: hours of failed takes, increasingly low stamina tank, hours of editing, and rubbing my sore hands in the dead of night hoping it'll go away so I can go back to recording and make them hurt more.
There's so many things that I did to this piece that it'll take forever to list, so maybe I'll talk about my favorite bits. In the first three seconds of the piece, I found that those little runs reminded me heavily of the beginning of Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity (from Holst's orchestral suite, The Planets). My solution to recreate this part was just using fourths for the layering effect. It felt good, as did rolling the chord with both hands at 0:41. Oh, and building up to slam that sus4 climax at 0:48 while tossing my head back. Mmmmm.
I must have both sadist and masochist sides within me, otherwise I would never have imagined making Yunjin's bit at 0:56 entirely broken octave rolls. Adding in the constant arpeggios, this was easily the hardest part of the song (physically). I literally bent myself over by deciding "yup, this is how it has to be," but it turned out nearly exactly how I imagined, so I count this as a victory.
As always, 楽しんでくださいね。
