I have to admit that I needed several attempts at this tutorial to be successful! Part my fault, part old computer struggling running fusion. Many thanks for the great video, I enjoyed following along.

Thank you. Don't be discouraged that you need multiple repetitions/iterations to get the workflow correct, that is how we learn and develop our skill. Keep on modeling.

For the top pentagon you could also make a circular pattern of two bodies around the axis from the center to the tip of the first Pentagon.

This is very impressive, Can you drive the dome by adjusting a single variable assigned for the outside diameter? I just did it in solidworks and I'm trying to find a way to put it into On-Shape for a customer by driving the geometry by a single variable.
@KristianLaholm

Yes the design in this video is driven by the diameter of the circle (sphere) at 1:45 in video. I have not used On-Shape but there should be similar tools to create the workflow.

You can do a 3D sketch with lines from corner to center point if globe. And then use the end point of the sketch line for joint reference (If I understod you question).

Hello Kristian. Can you tell me how to make this into a sheet metal work and then if it's possible make a flat pattern?
@KristianLaholm
2 ай бұрын
Creating a sheet metal geodesic dome in Fusion 360 can be time-consuming. One approach involves starting with a surface model of the dome's top half. By applying fillets to all edges, you can simulate sheet metal bends. However, manually removing unwanted fillets is a tedious task. Once complete, thickening the surface and converting it to a sheet metal component will give you a solid base.

very nice and very impressive tutorial! i am building a geodesic dome sauna and i don't want to use the triangles, just the pentagon's, but when i sketch a pentagon it seems like i have to do something with it to make it a body so i extrude 1 mm but then i can't use the patch tool for surface anymore...
@KristianLaholm
Жыл бұрын
Extrude creates a solid body that can not be used with the surface tools. You can use the patch tool on a sketch making a surface body. I'm trying to understand the geometry you want.

@@KristianLaholm well, it's kind of a dome but with pentagons and a few triangles to fill up the gaps between the pentagons. More like a half soccer ball with flat surfaces if that analogy makes sense..

Hi! Thanks for a great tutorial. I’ve followed along perfectly right until the last part to stitch. I can select the triangular bodies but not pentagon. They are all in the bodies folder so I’m stumped as where I’ve gone wrong? Can you help? Thank you!

Stuck on 7:00, the pentagon did not snap nicely to the base and the corner when I constrained. I did this tutorial twice, the second time extremely carefully to make sure the lines perfectly match and intersect correctly (even zooming all the way in to make sure). I wonder what the problem is...

Check that you select the correct center point for the pentagon, the point is the projection of the short line (the line I create at 5:49)
