#4 from '6 Pictures of Childhood', Op.38 (1928)
----------------------------------------
Phillip Sear plays a piano piece by the British organist and composer Geoffrey O'Connor-Morris (1886-1964).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of Irish descent, and born in Switzerland, O'Connor-Morris studied at the Royal College of Music in London. He must have been quite a prodigy, as he was chosen out of 80 candidates, aged just 17, to become organist of Carlisle Cathedral in 1903. He held organist posts throughout England, and his last position was for 30 years as organist of Seventh Church of Christ Scientist, Kensington, London. From 1943-45 he taught conducting and orchestration at the Guildhall School in London. My information on him is taken from the 'British Music Collection' ( t.ly/LNTx ), where you can read more about him. As a composer, he wrote in various genres, and his Violin Concerto was played at the 1921 Proms in London.
The '6 Pictures of Childhood' were dedicated to Albert E. Bevan, who, I believe, was a music teacher at Chorleywood College, a former school for girls with limited or no sight in Hertfordshire, England.
