In my experience, as someone who lives in Australia, our roads don't have yellow lines. So far, whenever I've seen yellow lines down the middle of the road, it hasn't been Australia. And, y'know. I live here and all the lines are white. Hopefully that's some useful information. :)

Straightupstrut Glad to be helpful :P I can't 100% guarantee it to be true, since I only live in the south east portion of Australia and I haven't really travelled, but I at least know that where I am there are no yellow lines. I'm sure there's probably SOME rare exceptions to the rule every now and then, though.

Northernlion, this might be some usefull information: Stop signs are used in majority of the European country's. Belgium has a dutch and a french part; everything below the horizontal line of brussels is french. And the terrain in the french part of Belgium have alot of hills and very likely to be such a flat field as you had in your last location.

NL, the Alaska one had a turn near the start that gets you to a highway of sorts. You narrowly missed it! And right on the highway is a truck with some Alaska logo on it. And about France: my expirience is that the raod numbers are utterly useless in Geoguessr. Firstly, they make no sense in what order they were numbered, secondly a road may seemingly randomly discontinue and reappear half way a cross the country. And it seams that certain roads intersect numerous times at different parts of the country. Just infuriating! >.< If I am missing some obvious point or two on how to read the French road numbers than please enlighten me; I admit they have me beaten. I just ignore them nowadays.

From what I read, the D roads in France are unique to each department (French equivalent of counties). You shouldn't rely on the D roads to determine your location.
@HappyBelette
9 жыл бұрын
StoneyWagner Yep that's how it works. There is something like 100 departments so there is 100 D11 in France. The best way to find where you are in France is to find some signs pointing to a big city with a distance. They are pretty common here. Usually, the interesting signs are green or blue because they mean bigger roads. White signs are for department road which are small rural roads.

NL, there are yellow license plates in Britain, France and the Netherlands. If you come across black license plates in Europe, you're in Lichtenstein. In all the other central European countries they are white I think. The EU license plates have a little blue area on the left with the European flag and the country code on it, you often can see it even if the license plate is blurred out.

1. I found Highway 53, took it until I recognized the city "Green Bay". Then I skimmed Wisconsin for the highway, followed it to the other road, and voila, found exactly where it was. 5000 points. 2. I went the other way, found the name of the actual road "RS-324", and put it in the State of Rio Grande Do Sul. Just a little tip: the part of highway names before the dash in Brazil are abbreviations for the name of the state. Just something to keep in mind. 4595 points. 3. This time, I put my marker in the middle of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. I was closer to the actual location, though, but that one was kind of a shot in the dark. 3458 points. 4. I saw a sign that says "Alaska". Nuff' said. 3134 points. 5. I assumed I was near the shore, and placed my marker a little far away from the actual location. 3927 points. Overall: I won. I got almost 8000 more points than you with a total of 20114 points. Well played, nevertheless, though I found my way out of that swampy area in Alaska, and that certainly helped a ton, as just outside of there, it started looking like Alaska. GG.

#1: *sees the county road signs*...Wisconsin! Unfortunately, I went the same direction as NL did, the other direction would've taken me to Chippewa Falls, a town that I've been in and through *many* times. (Also the home of Leinenkugel's Brewing Company, which makes beer good enough to convince you it isn't owned by Miller.) Picked a place 80 miles SE, 4600 points. #2: Uh oh, Spanish. Not sure what that country code is...waitasecond, that's not Spanish at all! Brazil again! Picked a place in Bahia, because trees...1239 points, just barely more than NL. #3: Went the opposite way from NL...are we back in Wisconsin? *finally finds US-12 junction sign* Holy crap, we're back in Wisconsin. Now to just find out what road we're on...bingo. 616 yards away, 4998. #4: This is either a pine barrens in Wisconsin, or somewhere a lot further north. *takes Mizzen, left on Buoyant, finds paved road* Alaska Waste, huh. Well, considering that paved roads are pretty much nonexistent north of Fairbanks, that's still a really big area to search. *takes right* Burkeshore? Screw it, I'll pick halfway between Fairbanks and Anchorage...4361, and holy crap NL is horrible at this. In a fun way. #5: South Africa? Maybe Australia? Nope, France. Found D86, but it was the one north of Paris and I was tired of looking...4596, 19794 total. Summary: I cheated, I've lived most of my life in Wisconsin.

Considering you do all this off the top of your head NL, you are so not bad at GeoGuessr. I'm often pretty amazed at how your reasoning leads you to be fairly close regionally, even if you tend to tap out early (probably because you're recording) which causes you to overlook things. This episode was a bit of an outlier, as it appeared you were far less patient than normal, but also got some ridiculously rural seeds where information was sparse.

The orange mark is your guess. The black Flag symbol is where you were (and where you must click for 5000 points). You seem to mix them up once in a while. :) D-roads in France are district roads. Their numbers are only unique in one district. Each district may or may not have its own D-11 road. So try to find out where in France you are, before relying on a D-road search. :) (Of course, if you find a D-road with the correct number, and also the correct towns/villages/cities on it, then you have a good guess there.)

Can confirm that Montana has some pretty bitchin' forests. I live closer to the middle though and rarely ever travel north, but I'm assuming they're similar to the ones I see here. The only times I'll see dead trees are when there have been forest fires there and they haven't grown back.

First one, I found it strange the roads had letters instead of numbers. First state I found on the map which had that was Wisconsin. I found the N road, but I didn't get the right part of the state. 4606 points. Second one, I figured South America from the vegetation. Didn't see any of the telltale Portugese letters on signs, but a passing truck had a .br url on the side. Then I saw flags on the back of a bus, Argentina-Uruguay-Paraguay-Brazil-Chile, and from that I figured it was southern Brazil based on the area of operation of the bus company/travel agency. My guess was a bit north of the mark, nearer to Paraguay, and I got 2595 points. Third one, the terrible camera made it impossible to read any signs. I had to go on the fact we were in the U.S. (yellow road markings and cars drive on the right + bad camera), there were lots of trees, and a railroad crossing. I guessed South Dakota. Strangely it was Wisconsin again, maybe going further would have found a better camera. 2729 points. Fourt one I thought was Canada or maybe Alaska from the vegetation and road names. I found my way onto paved roads and spotted two houses without American flags, so I thought Canada. Then I got to Big Lake North State Recreational Park, Alaska. I couldn't find Big Lake on the map (it's not very big compared to Alaska) and guessed northeast of Anchorage since there were at least traces of civilization. Should have just guessed Anchorage proper, but still 4304 points. Last one looked French from the start. Confirmed when I got to the village of Ruan and saw the telltale yellow road signs and white distance markers at the town center. One of them said Paris to the west, so I figured it was northeastern France (not necessarily near Paris). Turns out the Frenchmen tricked me, and it was actually south of Paris. Still 4247 points. Final score 18481. Not a great run, but seeing NL missed the Alaska one I shouldn't complain. Now to watch the video and see what happened!

Those Wisconsin ones were bullshit. I got caught in a trap that I learned that there were junctions named after letters in Kansas and Colorado. After finding road signs for letter junctions in both of those in Wisconsin I guessed those prior places. I predictably ended up fairly far off. In Alaska there was a road you could turn off and at the end of it you would luckily have run into an Alaska Waste truck. After fishing for some road names I was able to get only about 3 km off. In France our guesses were remarkably close. After searching for too long for D11 I settled for a general area in which there were several other cities that ended in "ville." It was luckily pretty close. Finally, fuck Brazil.
