I've been watching this duet for over the past 3 years trying not to have a bias opinion. I think George Benson is a Very Talented Singer but in this performance he came across to me like he was showboating at times even trying to play with the pharsing style of Sassy. This may sound strange but I'd rather hear Sassy singing both parts or have better match up (Billy Eckstine) which would be like Heaven.

The song suppose to be whimsical. Even Moody said it. In one of his performances, Moody even made it whimsical....Meaning love can make you crazy and silly at times. Get it. But my question is how can you showboat in Jazz? They are both showboating ! So what. This is what Jazz is all about. There are many interpretation of this song mind you and Jazz is improvisation. Love can make you crazy, delirious, longing, etc. This is what Moddy's Mood is saying.

It's funny because I was thinking the SAME thing! You CAN showboat in jazz, especially if you are doing a duet.. Yes the song is whimsical but it appeared he was trying to get the spotlight. I'm such a Sarah fan, and that's why I'm here, but George seemed to take over leaving her to embellish here and there.

Perhaps he over prepared. He knew he'd be working with her, perhaps he wanted to show respect by treating it seriously.

This sort of busy quirky jazz vocal is always in danger of going OTT. George overdid it that time.

George Benson is way out of his league on this one. He sounds ridiculous trying to sing in the style of the great Sarah Vaughan. He needs to go sit down somewhere!
