As a young lawyer, I studied RICO (the Racketeers Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act). This law was passed to try to stop fraudulent and illegal activities that crossed state borders. I know when an industry is not protecting consumer rights. And based on my nearly 20 years with the walk-in tub industry, there are many shady and questionable practices going on right now! Most are happening due to in-home, high pressure sales processes.
I try to explain the psychology and pre-designed strategies used to extract the very most money possible from vulnerable seniors. These "pre-packaged" walk-in tubs often don't best meet the consumer's needs, and frequently force them to pay for features and equipment on their walk-in tub that they neither need nor want. In my opinion, the "one-size-fits-all" walk-in tub game is costing seniors MILLIONS of dollars.
These walk-in tub companies are very effective at taking advantage of seniors, and some sell over 1,000 tubs per month! "The nation's leading sellers of walk-in tubs" is in the lead due to very expensive and pervasive mass media walk-in tub sales and marketing campaigns. They use seasoned and highly trained sales people to go into the home, and do or say whatever they need to walk out with the contract... THE SAME DAY! It is called a "one call close" approach. Not a consumer oriented approach to selling seniors and the mobility challenged walk-in tubs to my thinking.
It is a game of misleading and manipulating, and frankly, I find it disgusting. These closers go into your sacred home with one intention... walking out with as much of your precious and scarce money as they possibly can. Think door-to-door aluminum siding sales, late night pitch TV programs, and used cars. These people are not entering your home to do what is best for you. They are there to PROFIT, and as much as possible.
