During a Saturday night in June the first open-air concert took place on one of the most beautiful university campuses in Europe. The event had a picnic character and took place on June 16 in the evening in the courtyard with fountains in front of the Main Building of the Gdańsk University of Technology. The program includes works by Georg Friedrich Handel performed by the Baroque orchestra and academic choirs from Gdańsk and Kraków, as well as a fireworks show.
" - Thanks to the wonderful architecture and attractive location, the campus of the Gdańsk University of Technology was recognized by the Times Higher Education portal as one of the ten most beautiful in Europe this year. Therefore, following the example of the best world academic centers, we want to open even more to the inhabitants and tourists visiting our region, to show them the value of campus. An open-air outdoor concert, to which I warmly invite all lovers of good music, will be a great opportunity. We want this concert to become a tradition inscribed in the calendar of cultural events in the Tri-City for years " - says prof. Jacek Namieśnik, rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology.
The concert repertoire includes pieces by George Frideric Handel performed by the Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology (AChPG), the Academic Choir of Cracow University of Technology "Cantata" (prepared by Marta Stós) and the Gdynia Baroque Orchestra "Sinfonia Nordica" under the baton of dr. hab. Mariusz Mróz, AChPG conductor. Works such as the coronation anthem "Zadok the Priest" and "My Heart is Inditing", "Water Music" and "Music for the Royal Fireworks" were performed. The concert was hosted by Agnieszka Oszczyk, journalist and presenter of Polish Television. The music scene was set on the stairs in front of the Main Building. The musical side of the evening was made more attractive by the fireworks show, which accompanied the performance of the last part of "Music for the Royal Fireworks".
