Okay: The Force works by putting some inputs into an output. You’re gonna need 56 gigabytes of RAM. Next, you’ve got a toaster. You SPLASH a TON of Mountain Dew on it while the toaster’s plugged in. Then you make a bundt cake. Again you make another bundt cake. Put 1 Pop Tart in each bundt cake. Light a cigar. Do the Macarena. Ask an ouija board, “What is 1+1?” and also “When will my wife leave me?” Then you want to pull an executive’s finger. After that make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Don’t eat it. Just put it on your head. Then say, “III AM YOUR FAAATTHHEEER!!” Congratulations. You now know how The Force works and how to mass-produce a Force at your local Force stand in your neighborhood so everyone can have a nice little Force of their own!

For those of you who don't know. He has been pressured to sell his COMPANY by Disney since the 90's. He was even offered to be CEO of Disney. Disney never wanted Star Wars, they wanted his tech and position in the industry as the most important special and digital effects developer and provider of the world. Whe he said no them, magically all of the Hollywood press started to attack him and his work, even before the prequels came out. And eventually due to this pressure he had to sell his company to basically his main competitors and clients. Also he said that there was no story after Anakin's death. He didn't have a script or story in 2012 so he couldn't have made a sequel trilogy. He said it takes 10 years to make a trilogy and would've finished on 2022. He wanted to make other type of films and spend the rest of his days with his family. And because the press had taken his support from the fans, he's been doing them privately. He's 80 now. He can go any time soon. At least that money allowed him to keep making movies and spend time with his family. Disney has been destroying Star Wars since before buying it. Don't forget it. They even sued George after they bought Lucasfilm because of a joke he made, then deleted this from the internet. They have power and only care about getting more, just like a Sith would, even blaming the Jedi for their fall in their new lore, which is just blasfemous to the source material.

It’s such a twisted and straigh-up fucked up thing when people try to write the narrative that George sold Star Wars because he was sick of the story or just couldn’t take the fans criticism. It was never about that, even before the prequels people were critical about the Star Wars, that didn’t stop him then, what stopped him NOW, was a sociopathic company literally invading his personal life at every turn and pressuring him using their own resources as a billionaire company to practically force him to sell them his entire business. What happened with a lot of new material makes me think of how the original plan Lucasfilm and Del Rey favored for the plot the books would go in was rejected by Lucas in favor of New Jedi Order, only for them to just try it again in Legacy of the Force. In the sense that it was a lot of decisions that people higher up who weren't the actual writers (or the guy who started the whole thing) wanted, but also because the Sequels feel derivative from a lot of stuff in the EU, including LotF.

@@LidiaFaremi I was more so thinking (with regards to the sequels) how Lucas gave them story treatments, they rejected them, Michael Arndt produced a script, and then we got something significantly different in TFA (with the soft-reboot/ANH remake aspect being attributed to a Bob Iger mandate), while some aspects of the Arndt script found their way back into TLJ. That, and the Lucasfilm story group, most visibly Pablo Hidalgo on Twitter, seem to strongly favor TLJ over TFA or ROS. The other film thing I was thinking was just how directors or writers got swapped multiple times for most of the films, and there were significant re-writes for a lot of them.

One thing I think that gets overlooked when talking about the inspirations of the OT is there a lot of screwball comedies in Star Wars and Empire's DNA. The brassy cosmopolitan, the naive do gooder and charming cynic with a secret heart of gold is the exact same trifecta of personalities in The Philadelphia Story as it is in Star Wars. It's a formula that allows three distinct characters to bounce off one another in a bunch of fun ways. In the ST Rey and Poe don't meet until the final movie and Rey never developed any kind of chemistry with Finn. The one side of the triangle that worked really well was John Boyega and Oscar Issacs but after the first 25 minutes of TFA they don't see each other again until the final movie. So our three main characters barely spend anytime together and don't develop any kind of spark between them.
@iminumst7827

Agreed, one of the big tragedies of the sequels was taking the two characters with the best chemistry Finn and Poe, and separating them forever. The movies woulda been so much more watchable if we got more Finn Poe buddy dynamics. Instead we got the horrible Finn and Rey chemistry. :

That comment about the new films being just inspired by Star Wars is so on point. It's also why I think Rogue One and Andor are the only good things to come out of it post Disney taking over as both of those actually have a constant theme at their core: of rebellion and passing the torch (as well as a huge love and respect for Star Wars lore that the new films lacked) which makes them unique and gives them some soul.

Why did he back Bob Iger during the proxy battle if he hated everything they did with the sequels? He voted all his shares to not make any changes to the board of directors and kept Nelson Peltz and Jay Rasulo off the board when they would have went back to George's vision cause it makes money.

Why'd you say "Religious meditation practices" rather than "Zen Buddhism" in the text?
@mj_SR22
28 күн бұрын
I obviously can't speak for him, but perhaps because SW draws from multiple religions in a variety of ways. So while the text cited is correct, it's more accurate to say religious in general than just Zen. The concept of a messiah type figure, an individual who restores balance after a time away, is more prominent in Western faiths for example. While in Eastern ones the more omnipresent, less individualized image of spirituality tends to be more so.. That's just my initial thought, I've heard interviews where George cites a variety of religious influences. But I can't speak for the actual speaker in the video, maybe it was just an accidental generalization. =)

There's a comic called The Star Wars which is based off of George's original first draft of Star Wars and it's fascinating how different it is to what we ended up getting. I would love to see George's sequel trilogy scripts get the same treatment. Everybody wins. Sequel fans can read it and think "Wow, that's interesting, but I'm glad we got the films that we did" and those that dislike the sequels can read them and have their complete George Lucas Episode I to IX Star Wars Saga - even if 3 of them are in a different format

Gen X is also the reason why Attack of the Clones is regarded as the worst film of the prequel trilogy when it wasn't anywhere near as campy as the other two. It was flawed for sure, but the it had the least flaws out of of three. What people really don't like about it is the pacing. It takes its time while Revenge of the Sith - wrongly considered the best film of the trilogy - is so crammed with action sequences that it becomes nauseating. They may not get anywhere near the amount of hatred that gen Y, Z, and the baby boomers get, but the fact is, gen X remotely dictates how films and television are made, because they are the most vocal about hating things as a result of being mentally frozen at the age of fifteen while even gen Z has now outgrown them in maturity.

@@wr7662 As a prequel fan, like huge prequel fan, attack of the clones was the worst movie in quality. It most definitely had the most flaws out of the movies. Revenge of the Sith is clearly the best one. Attack of the Clones best thing going for it is Anakin and his mom, and the climax of the film. The acting from Hayden and Natalie are not r he sat in this film, and there are few scenes where they actually had chemistry. They needed better direction from George, as they are not bad actors at all. The mystery aspect of this film would have worked better if they had focused on it more, but instead that time was taken with bad dialogue and romance scenes with Anakin and Padme. That would have been more justified as a slower movie if the romance scenes were done better. But they are so awful it’s hard to believe why Padme would like Anakin, as his characterization is not as good in this film as the Clone Wars, and Revenge of the Sith was a step up for Anakin. Not to mention a ton of loose plot threads like Sifo Dyas. The CGI in this film is the worst out of the three films as well. All the prequels had their beautiful moments, but Attack of the Clones Kamino cgi is not great at all. There were very few moments in the other movies that the cgi did not hold up. Overall, mostly due to Anakin and Padme scenes, the movie is worse overall because of that.

If that's true - then Johnson failed spectacularly. Other than the parts where it appears to have 'borrowed' from both episodes 5 and 6 of the OT, all the scenes I can think of from the last time I watched it years ago look nothing like the war movies from the time that inspired Lucas, nor any of the Samurai movies - they don't even remind me of those contemporary to Star Wars around the 70's. They look, and even feel, more akin to I'm going to say post-2000 movies of those types that play hard and double down on old tropes of the genre's that have become exaggerated with time. Or rather I'll say the bad post-2000 war movies as there are 1-2 good ones, 8 looks more like 'Pearl Harbor' or that absolute trash 'Midway' movie of a couple years ago.

What'll be wild is if we see a Sequel Trilogy revival in 20 years like we did with the Prequels. If we went on my opinion directly after seeing the films, I hated the prequels WAY more than the Sequel movies at the time of release, but I'm rather nostalgically fond of them now. The sequel trilogies lack the epic moments the prequels have. No one’s going to want to rewatch princess Leia flying around, Luke force ghosting himself to death, or horses in a space battle. There’s zero redeeming qualities. If anything time will only solidify how they’re pure crap and everything wrong with modern cinema.
@raes704
28 күн бұрын
I could be very very wrong, but I don’t see that happening, and the reason is that the triology doesn’t tell a story, the prequels do, they present Anakin, the Jedi and republic, the second one the war, the plotting and the relationship with Anakin and padme, and the third is the one where everything meets each other; the sequels on the other hand, have three movies that goes on a different direction of the previous one, TLJ doesn’t follow what TFA established, neither does TROS. The prequels failed because of its script, but they had a story, that was its redeeming quality that other products like the clone wars explored. What are the redeeming qualities of the sequels, since the don’t have a story? The effects? Some funny scenes? Sure someone will feel nostalgic in 15 years about that one time he saw any of the movies in the theater, or when bought that one toy, but enough for everyone to start appreciating them? Pretty shameful considering how every movie added at least some kind of new plot that hadn't been seen before. Ep 8. Was a complete mess. Compeltely miswritten luke skywalker, loads of plot holes that don't make sense in the other movies. And just overall a poor story that had none of the gravitas we expect from star wars. I mean come on the "entire rebel fleet" is like 4 ships in total. Ep 9. Was at least something new. I mean it had some new elements in star wars so thats nice i guess, but still it was over convoluted as hell. Also gave rey way too much prestige that she never actually earned and an overall piss poor ending to star wars that threw away what the first 6 films were trying to set up.

You could say the same about prequels Ep 1 - There's kinda the resemblance. Master trains his padawan and then master dies. There's big space fight that the good guys win. And don't get me talkin about plot holes (Kill the boy, don't kill the boy) Ep 2 - Anakin, the supposed chosen one, is a totally unlikeble lad trained by obi-wan whose character changes in every movie. The uncountable amount of plotholes is terrible. Palpatines assasination plan is extremely goofy (palps sends dooku who sends jango who sends shapeshifter who sends drone who sends "worm like things" and then the plan fails. But instead of Jango killing Padme himself he kills the shapeshifter he hired). Palps now decides not to kill da boy. Ep 3 - As a star wars movie it's good but as a movie it's trash. The plot holes, the dialogues and the contrast of anakins personality is a complete disaster. You want to tell me that the guy who risked his life, his friends life and caused so many fatalities and war crimes now turns bad in matter of seconds because he had a bad dream and windu roasted him? Anakin lost not because of his own dumbness but because of original trilogy that said he has to lose otherwise there's no reason for him to loose. Also lava doesn't work that way, get too close and get barbecued. Yes the movie may have been original but shitting on a plate and serving it to you is original as well but would you like it? Windu losing to palpatine because he had to is the worst thing ever and also you want to tell me that Anakin couldn't do anything else? Hold his hand, force pull his lightsaber, get palpatine out of the way or MAYBE HAVE COMMON SENSE AND NOT TRUST THE GUY WHO CLEARLY BETRAYED ALL HIS PREVIOUS APPRENTICES?

I kinda dissagree. Maybe George knew what Star Wars was in the 80's but when he were making prequels he lost it. Even now he keeps saying that Star Wars is for kids. Sure, Original Trilogy was mostly lighthearted adventure. Prequels were very different - politics, traumas, war, entirety of "Revenge of the Sith" - these are things that weren't for kids anymore because these were either boring or to heavy to handle. I also hate the fact that Lucas keeps acting like one and only gate keeper refusing to let us experience original theatrical cuts of the OT also not giving a damn or even disrespecting works of other creators responsible for Expanded Universe. On many ocasions he proved that he is no oracle as far as Star Wars goes. He can also make mistakes and there are people that can do things better than he. Star Wars is his creation, he started it all but it ceased to be ONLY his ever since Empire Strikes Back, ironically the one movie he had least to do with, and which is considered the best in the OT.

What was the point of even selling it to disney, I swear they destroy everything they touch.

You're right about that. The most evil company on the face of the earth. They don't even know what true entertainment is anymore. Since Walt died, the company has went to manure.

Except he doesn't agree with public opinion all he said was that Disney didn't understand star wars infact he straight up praised the last jedi and feels indifferent about force awakens/doesn't care about it

The last jedi started the backlash and the proof is how the Solo movie was boycotted in protest of that trash film.

I agree. Ep 9 (even as someone who enjoys every star wars movie) was horrible and so is Ep 8. However 8 is not bad as a standalone movie, but because it gave us the death of Luke which in Ep 9 had no real consiquences.

I get Bob Igor was a close friend of his and maybe at the time he thought he could trust him and Kathleen Kennedy, but they stabbed him in the back. Both Igor and Kennedy need to go, they do not deserve their jobs. As for the prequels, sure they had flaws and those flaws were important to the story.

George should have written everything THEN give Disney to make it into a movie

At 9ne pont after seeing The Force Awawkens, I found a website that showed the movie scripts for George Lucas' original ideas for Episode VII, VIII & IX. I think it would've been better with those. With the sequel trilogy that Disney put out, it's basically a remake of the original trilogy.

Once the word "midichlorians" entered the lexicon, I became VERY open to accepting other people's ideas on what the Force is and isn't.

Why? Because you didnt like it? People trying to explain Star Wars to George Lucas is the same if people would try to explain Middle-earth to Tolkien... Star Wars is HIS creation, and belongs to him.

@@ilznidiotic By that logic "The rings of Power" is cannon to the lore of Middle-earth. Look, I don't like midichlorians, the remastered versions of the original trylogy and a lot of things Lucas did, but people need to stop talking about Star Wars as if it was a real world and Lucas a mere journalist/historian.

@@javiergambito3352 Canon and rights are not always the same thing. The rights to LOTR are split three ways, and the movie and streaming rights do not affect the continuity of the original work. However, sometimes that's not the case- as with the Star Wars canon, which Disney owns lock, stock and barrel. That's why your analogy is bullshit. That's why Lucas' vision isn't sacrosanct- HE SOLD IT. Stop talking about him like a journalist? That's a better comparison than God, which is what you seem to be going for. He's as relevant to the product as Disney says he is, and that's what his fanboys need to get used to.

@@ilznidiotic I am not his fanboy, but if you are a fan of Star Wars you are a fan of his creation. You understand that, don't you? He created that universe not Disney, wich, by the way, are making him look better and better with every new movie/show/game they make. What Disney owns today another company will own tomorrow. You people are obssesed with the "canon" and you talk about owning like iif we are talking about objects. Art is completely different, you can buy a painting and you can do whatever you like to it, but that doesn't make you the maker/artist of that work.
