Both Aretha Franklin and George Michael are gone now, and they’re both remembered as legends, albeit very different sorts of legends. "I Knew You Were Waiting" - their one big hit together - is a footnote in both of their careers and a very good song at that.

Holy crap, I just searched for this specific song and *BAM*.... You JUST uploaded it minutes ago! It hurts so much to say these two are gone. We were spoiled in the 80's with all this incredible talent coming together... EDIT: To answer your question, this isn't related to "Ain'tNo Mountain High Enough." The screen in the background featured a few of the more famous duet partners in music including Ike & Tina and Sonny and Cher.

Brilliant reaction to a great song, Aretha Franklin was probably the greatest singer ever i heard Freddie Mercury say this, I read a comment who said george should not do this duet, Whos going to turn down the chance to sing with Aretha even knowing your going to come out second best, George had barely been singing 5 years here Professionally and did a good job, They got on great and George even stopped at Arethas house up in the hills in Detroit for a couple of days despite the fact paper reports said they didn't get along, she even joined him on his faith tour to sing this, George also said it give him so much confidence singing with a legend like Aretha and she was so lovely to him.

So true. He said she cooked for him and got him hooked on soul food. Fried chicken, greens n yams. He said he hid out at her house when doing his Faith tour so he wouldn’t be hounded by reporters

Angela, what I get from it is very similar to Aint no Mountain High Enough in that it is about a strong love. The only difference is that Marvin and Tammy were talking about no mountain that can KEEP them away from each other. This one is more about that mountain e.i. metaphor for life's challenges, did not get in the way of them finding each other and falling in love. Is it cool if you like or really understand this comment, to acknowledge it. I sometimes feel like Im talking to the air and thus less likely to leave a comment when you never hit the like for any of the subscribers comments that they take time to drop as you ask. Thanks. Good luck on getting 50k! 💗

I don't think it was intended as a direct answer, but it was somewhat inspired by "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" as well as "River Deep, Mountain High" by Ike and Tina Turner and "I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher, both of which they also show clips from in the video for "I Knew You Were Waiting (for Me)", above.

I don’t think that was true. I read George’s biography. When George did his “Faith” tour, I believe in New York, Aretha showed up and surprised him. They did this live on stage. I remember George had a red handkerchief around his head. I saw interviews where Aretha talked about him n what a lovely man he was.

George has given us a total of 30+ yrs. of his life, & It only gets better & better, like fine wine gets better with age. Suggestion: STAR PEOPLE or LIVEN IN THE CITY! This song will always evoke memories of my 17- year-old self, a senior in high school, zipping down the Southern California highways with this song on the radio, armed with my two-month-old driver's license. Now,..just my opinion,..think it was a kinda nod, to Marvin and Tammi,..I don't know if it was Aretha 's Idea, in the video,..but we loved it,..I think Marvin had died by the time this song came out,..and Tammi had died long before that,.when they were still young, as Aretha was when Tammi died,..it was you know shocking, like when Sam Cooke,..Jimmy Hendrix,.Janis Joplin,..Otis Redding,..they were all young,.you know,..and when Aretha made this song you know,..she was still around,..older,..still going strong,..and probably glad to live to tell the tale,..after so many,..who were as groundbreaking as her had already left the planet,..too soon,..too young,..and it just overjoyed me to see young Michael,..working with her,..with this legend from another era,.who survived,..and was still belting it out,.I had hoped like her some day he'd be living in his older years like Aretha,..but like the ones I mentioned,..also gone too young, too soon,..do check out Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, song Aretha did with Annie Lenox,..two young artists she worked with,..so love the new working with the legends,..like Gaga working and Amy Winehouse working with Tony Bennett,..them learning from the best,..and those legends gaining newfound fans,..sorry Freddy Mercury couldn't be part of it,.but very happy Adam Lambert performed with remaining members of Queen,..quite audacious, quite spectacular,..keep going,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
