I don't know if Herbstreit has become a Clemson homer or if he's just a complete idiot, but he pauses the screen at 1:17:11 and says DJ should have run. What a joke! It was 3rd & 16 so he would have had to run 23 yards from the 46 where he was standing to the 23 yard line. UGA had 2 unblocked safetys around the 20 yard line and 2 CBs who would come off their coverage, plus Adam Anderson was about a half second from coming off his block and would have chased him from behind. DJ may have picked up 6 or 8 positive yards or so, but NO WAY does he run for a first down there. Get a grip Kirk!

I think Herbstreit as a former qb was hoping to see DJ improve in that game and beyond and it was frustrating to watch DJ have such a poor game. DJ could have maybe run there for about ten yards and gave them a good FG chance but he doesn't usually make those kind of plays routinely. I am a Nebraska fan and generally think Herbie is very professional and do not consider him a Clemson homer. Clemson is having to learn how to play without the best qb in college football and it was very difficult last year (and it was in 2017).

@@kevinbelka1711 Both of Herbies sons, Tye and Jake, played football at Clemson (one is still there, the other retired from football and has since transferred). He's also had it in for UGA ever since they beat him in the 1992 Citrus Bowl. But whatever. DJ would have had to make the decision to tuck & run about 2.2 - 2.3 seconds after the snap to have gained any yards. That's pretty quick even for the best NFL QBs and Herbie knows it. And even then it's very likely he doesn't gain any yardage at all with UGA's defensive speed (Adam Anderson is a lot faster than DJ and was coming free). Chris Fowler was much more professional, giving the UGA D credit where it was absolutely due.
