"so you remember when it was 9pm on a cool summer day, and the fam decided to go to Blockbuster and get a movie they've been thinking about for the past couple weeks. It's your chance to rent the disc of Star Wars the Clone Wars Season 2, examine some very overpriced candy, and stare at the crazy design on the carpet while ya parents check out.
it's in this Blockbuster where one can find a lone ceiling fan, spinning slowly and slightly offset from the middle of the room, never doing much more than simply existing. This fan starts up by activation of the light switch at the beginning of the shift, and runs without anyone double taking it all day, to finally rest when the store closes.
Long after Blockbuster has shut down, this fan still remains in the old store, now perhaps a hair saloon, or dollar general. The fan remembers the olden days, when the employees used to dust it off on slower days, but now it hangs there, outdated and no longer used.
This lone fan, a 36" Georgian from Kmart, is the final touch to an Early 90s room."
-Me, bored out of my mind, 2020
I found this fan on Craigslist and drove 2 hours to get it, and 2 hours back. It has been sitting in the box, unused, since it was manufactured 3 decades ago. I decided to take the liberty of unboxing it myself, but I knew such a historic event couldn't go unrecorded, so here it is.
