Love the attention to detail. The patterns meet each other in the middle long ways, and in the middle you made some sort of trianle design for each arm where they connect in the middle. The black and white at the ends look real nice too.

Man I can’t find sinews that long anywhere where do you come by those I even went to the butcher shop locally and asked the butcher to save them for me and they were 4 inches long. I told him the guy on the video I watch have 20 inch tendons. I just don’t think he’s a very experienced butcher lol if you get time, I’d appreciate if you let me know. Thanks for your time.

I've always wondered about the poundage (+ 130 lbs???) on these Turkish bows. Which arrows do they shoot with - the arrows must at least be made of steel if the spine is to fit roughly to the bow. There is no arrow shelf cut into the bow, which means that the arrow has to go around the bow pretty much. All else being equal, this would mean a relatively soft arrow but if a soft arrow for a kick of 130 lbs I would think it would break. The Turkish bows I have tried have definitely not been at +130 lbs. I helped to untie a Turkish bow that was presented to the Danish royal house by the Turkish embassy; it was approx. 60 lbs.

they used wooden arrows sometimes with antler or horn knocks a steel arrow would be ridiculous as it would be too heavy for efficient energy the wood arrows where made in a barreled shape (ie thicker in the center and tapered towards the ends) or tapered from point to knock depending on the distance the arrow was meant to shoot (tapered arrows tended to be heavier for the same spine so more suited for close range) i hope this answers your question also the knocks tended to be thicker than the back of the shaft so it could hold up to the force and also because of the use of khatra there is no archers paradox with a horn bow

I agree, it boggles the mind thinking about the arrow construction for such bows. I recently visited a museum in Viena with a good friend and there was a Mughal and Turkish bow there along with some flight arrows for the Turkish bow. They were extremely tiny and delicate.

This is not a Georgian bow. This is a Kipchak battle bow. Which 30-40,000 Kipchaks under Queen Tamar were settled in Georgia and defended the borders of Georgia from the Seljuk Turks. This is a beautiful Kipchak battle bow , not a Georgian one.
@PANZERSIM
Жыл бұрын
You are incorrect, mate. Kipchaks were settled in Georgia by the Kind David (King Tamar's grandfather).few years before the Didgori battle (1121, 12 August)

So what are the specs :draw weight@ 28 ,arrow weight, and the arrow speed????
@JWBBows
5 жыл бұрын
bearded archery unfortunately I don’t remember the measurements off the top of head. I do have them written down in my notes so I’ll have to look back at them and get back to you. It is a lot longer in length compared to other composites though. The arrow speed wasn’t very impressive due to the mass of the bow and the requested #40 draw weight by the client. I would say at #60-80 this bow would really start to shine. The original bow I estimate by limb thickness to be in the #100 range.
@DaddyBear3000
5 жыл бұрын
Damn that looks fast. Did you measure the flight at full draw?
@JWBBows
5 жыл бұрын
Karl Harris it was shooting at around 160fps I believe. Unfortunately the client wanted the bow at #40 draw weight so I couldn’t get a very accurate analysis on what the original may have performed at. The original bow I believe was in the #100 range. I am building another one to do more testing on at a higher draw weight.

how much is speed the arrow.? can you tell me ease. thx
@JWBBows

Zainal Arifin around 160fps. Only #40 draw weight. Compared to the mass of the bow, that’s not too bad.

Abel Villarreal. You are very for fortunate to have traveled there. From what I understand being commissioned to reproduce this bow, the original bow finding was in the townlet of Mestia Georgia. It has very similar characteristics of the Sind and Turkish type bows. Multiple hornstrips belly like Indo-Persian and Mughal bows as well.
