Even when Gerald Wilson's arrangements were played by Duke Ellington they were recognisably his own. This is marvellous!!

I NEVER knew of Gerald Wilson, until his death last week. Has happened SO often in my life, beginning with when I'd first heard of Bob Marley!! SO saddening ....... R.I.P. ....... thanks for such a CONTRIBUTION!!!

Hope others are still posting. I have played since 1957 and still do. Overall GW band is my top BB for everything. Charts, ensemble, spirit, solos JAZZ!!!

True real jazz that bring a smile on your face. Nothing like big band sound hot vibes and great horns of GW will live for ever in music world. This band started a bunch of great musicians over the years Roy Ayers Richard Groove Holmes, Joe Pass, Harold Land and so many more. This was recorded 1965-66 the LP record was titled On Stage ---------------- Dunmore Music of Monee IL

Brings back memories of seein' Gerald & his band, lots of Sunday afternoons at the Pilgrimage, w/ Harold Land, HL Jr, Anthony Ortega, Oscar Brashear. RIP Gerald you were a major contribution to jazz in Los Angeles.
