We make this similar with dill & savory. Sometimes add a little cream & have vinegar available.

How long did you boil that chunk of meat, please?
@AllTastesGerman

I cook the meat usually between 45 and 90 min. depending on the meat. It is ready, when it almost falls apart.

i made this yesterday, and yes it was a hit with my family! the only change i made was to brown/roast the meat and bones prior to adding water. i consider the addition of the caraway at the end to be an essential ingredient (it gives the soup such a distinctive flavor). beef soup is one of my favorite things to cook (and eat!), so i decided to try to make all of the beef soup recipes of the world. thanks for sharing germany’s recipe 😊

Would browning the meat not add a bit of flavor?
@AllTastesGerman
3 жыл бұрын
Never tried it, but I think it would close the meat fibres and you want the meat to release the juices.

Do byou have to add carraway seeds and spice berries?
@AllTastesGerman
Жыл бұрын
The allspice berries add to the flavor and the caraway seeds will help to digest the cabbage better. But if you don´t have the spices on hand or don´t like the specific taste you can just omit them.

I made this soup and it’s delicious. However I had to half the amount of meat, potatoes, cabbage so it would fit into my biggest stove top pot. The rest of the ingredients remained the same. I added tomato sauce with the cabbage for added zest.

I added caraway seeds, you can use whole or ground ones, both do the trick :)
