I have a question: why does the pp change from singen to gesungen because I thought it was just the infinitive + ge at beginning. So why do you change the i to a u? Thank you!
@Casolo74
5 ай бұрын
Because like in English („sung“) the German verb „singen“ has an irregular verb root. So it is just one of many exceptions! Additionally it belongs to the irregular verbs which means that the ending of the past participle is „en“. If you want to learn all relevant rules of the German Present Perfect including separable, separable, regular, irregular and reflexive verbs check out this great video tutorial incl.exercises: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l2dryohma5SKfHYsi=p0naY_PVNN4LitVN

Hi Luzi, as always, thank you very much for another perfect lesson! Just a side note: in English, we have 24 auxiliaries. The list for sure includes the same: have and be. Just a thought, it seems like the German language teaching framework misses an opportunity to explain some things better by bringing to view similarities and differences between grammar concepts in English and German or to point out the same word steams. Despite moving substantially apart a long time ago, and currently representing quite different semantic systems, they are both Germanic languages and still have a lot in common...if one dares to look for :). It helps me learn when I can see similarities and differences between both languages, given that "just" a few hundred years ago, English used to conjugate WAY (!) more.
@yourgermanteacher

Thank you for the video. I have a question though. Why is it "Angerufen" and not "Angeruft"? I understood that for separable verbs, the formation is: prefix+ge+3rd person singular verb form. Is it because its an Unregular verb? So in case of unregular, separable verbs the formation is: prefix+ge+infinitiv form of verb. Please help me understand this. Thank you again!
@Casolo74
5 ай бұрын
Because „anrufen“ comes from „rufen“ and „rufen“ belongs to the irregular verbs which means that the ending of the past participle is „en“. And separable verbs like „anrufen“ or inseparable verbs like „berufen“ keep this irregular ending.

Hallo. Vielen Dank. You are the best teacher.I have a question. I have seen a sentence: 'Aber ich habe ihn gestern mit einem Mädchen tanzen sehen'. I think the correct formation should be ' Aber habe ich...tanzen GEsehen'. Not sure if this in Perfekt or some other tense. Kindly clarify.
@Casolo74
5 ай бұрын
No, the linking word „aber“ normally is in position 0. That means that after „aber“ comes f. e. the subject in position 1 and then the conjugated verb in position 2. So after „aber“ the verb will never follow directly. So this has nothing to do with the „Perfekt“. But if you want to learn all relevant rules of the German Present Perfect including separable, separable, regular, irregular and reflexive verbs check out this great video tutorial incl.exercises: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l2dryohma5SKfHYsi=p0naY_PVNN4LitVN
