I share a hobby with my girlfriend where we knit together. I have just started recently and often times need help from her as she is infinitely better than I am. However, due to corona, we have not been able to knit together. My sock was in grave danger until my girlfriend recommended your video. It's been an absolute lifesaver. Thanks to your video, I think my sock will get to see the light of day. Thank you very much Suzanne, and happy knitting.

Hi, I have a question. When the pattern states work 34 stitches in ribbing and turn, then slip the stitch from left needle to the right, pull yarn to the back to show double stitch then it states next row work 36 stitches, turn, slip stitch and so on, does the slip stitch count as the first stitch of the next row of 36 I have to do? Or once I turn slip the stitch pull yarn to the back then continue with pattern that the next stitch I work would count as the first stitch of the 36 I have to do. My pattern is back and forth at the back of the neck and as I go from row to row I’m adding additional stitches for example work 33 and turn, work 37 and turn and so on increasing on each side. Hope my question makes sense, thank you!

Hi Suzanne - As always, a great video. My question is this: If my ribbing is K2tog tbl, P2, and I'm on the wrong side at a purl stitch when I resolve the short row stitch, will purling through the back row maintain the continuity of the rib? Thank you!

So if a pattern says to k2 ,turn and work a GSR, how do you do that? Is one of those knit stitches the one you slip? Having trouble understanding?
@SuzanneBryan

The first stitch after you turn is the one that you will slip to the right needle and create a double stitch.

My short rows - both wrap & turn on garter stitch and also gsr - are loose and sloppy - what am I doing wrong? I pull tight but still are loose and sloppy - trying to out picture in without success.

This is a great question Barbara. I too had many times where my short row turns did not look good. It took lots of practice ands lots of swatching to improve. There are many ways to work short row turns and I also tried all of those. Now I am better at it. It just takes time and practice.

If my pattern says to knit to 5 stitches before the last wrapped stitch then would I knit 1 past that and knit to 4 stitches before the last wrapped stitch?

If your pattern says to knit to 5 stitches before the last wrapped stitch, then yes, you would knit until 4 stitches before the last wrapped stitch

Would you knit to the end of the row even when you have multiple shortrows like in the heel turn of a sock?
@SuzanneBryan
8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Max Girl I knit to the end, just as part of the demonstration of how to work the German Short Row turn. If you were working a heel turn of a sock, you would work to the next turn rather than to the end of the row. Let me know if this answers your question. Thanks for watching my video.

I have one question so when you are doing these short rows and it says “knit to 5 stitches before last “wrapped stitch” is that actually 5 or do you do one more stitch and do to the last 4 like the extra stitch you talk about here?

I do worry that I'll lose track of the double stitch and I use a marker because you'd expect that tension to work its way out, Seems it doesn't though.

What is accomplished by German Short Rows?
@SuzanneBryan
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stacy! Is your question specific to German Short Rows or Short rows in general? So generally speaking, short rows can help add length for bust shaping, adding length to back or the neck, etc. Basically for garment shaping. German Short Rows are what I prefer, but it is always a manner of personal preference.

I can do it fine on the purl side, but when I get to the knit side it doesn't work. I pull the yarn forward, slip purlwise, and pull up, but it doesn't make a double stitch like it should. It just makes a big knot and when I loosen it up and flatten it out, it makes a triple stitch.
@SuzanneBryan
5 жыл бұрын
Be sure to remember to slip the stitch to the right needle first, with the yarn in front. then pull the yarn up and over the needle to the back and continue to the left needle. It is worked the same from both WS and RS.
@jaclyn4098
5 жыл бұрын
@@SuzanneBryan that's what I did...im on the knit side, I bring the yarn forward between the needles, I slip purlwise from the left needle to the right needle, and pull the yarn up, directly over the right needle, and pull it down in the back to continue knitting. But it just makes a big knot.
