This is fascinating history Tom. The gun is in good condition for the last 108 years. Thanks.

Yes it is in brilliant condition Mike. It has been a children's climbing frame over the decades! But it is indeed linked to so much history.

Wow Shaun. That is amazing that about your mother's father being at Jutland on the HMS Canada! That is such a personal connection! I could hardly believe it when I read about Sir Roger Casement! The history you unexpectedly come across is mind blowing!

If you look at the plaque on the cenotaph you will find the name of my relative Captain Charles Arthur Rea or C.A. Rea who lived at 100 Donaghadee Road in Bangor. During WW2 he was in Syria, Iraq and Egypt but was killed in an America Jeep in 1943 while captaining allied soldiers during the Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy. His son Brian Rea is still alive and living in Cricklewood, London. I remember a kid getting his leg stuck in that gun many years ago and people using butter to remove it.

Fascinating Tom, this gun is one heck of a beast, and so rare it really should have railings round it it's not a play thing, and its amazing how its all interconnected Raimund Weisbach torpedo officer on U20 would have had orders relayed to him by his Commander Kapitan Walter Schwieger to fire on the Lusitania,it is reputed that Schwieger remarked he could not believe his luck. Tom am i right in thinking you did a video on Commander Bingham?
