A British military barracks in the suburbs of Osnabrueck in northern Germany came under a mortar attack on Friday (28/6), believed to have been launched by the Irish Republican Army. The blast, which caused no injuries but extensive damage, involved missiles fired from the back of a British-registered vehicle parked outside the army compound.

British Brigadier Richard Dannatt, Commander of the 4th Armoured Brigade SOT in English: "... An explosion was heard in the vicinity... we discovered a vehicle outside the barracks from which a mortar attack was initiated."
