Gersdorffite is a nickel arsenic sulfide mineral with formula NiAsS. Gersdorffite begins to deteriorate upon contact with oxygen, this mineral can only be preserved if it is inside quartz. Inclusions of octahedral Gersdorffite crystals in quartz from the area of the Astafyevsky deposit (Southern Urals, Russia) are world famous. This deposit is the only place in the world where such Gersdorffite inclusions are found.
