Totally agree, had a few negative comments on my Channel. People saying about the muck on the floor and empty joints I can actually agree with that but it's how you approach it, the rules are quite stringent and in last years final Antoine who came third laid 396 with no deductions against Charlie who layed 607 with 100 deductions ,so the right person can win it with quality. There are many bricklayers faster than Charlie and many who don't even look at the Internet but I can't get my head around Trolls who slag it off, it's good for the industry but if you don't want to be part of it stay stum.

Same as my college mate and will be the same everywhere else. An important part of all this to remember is all those bricks that have been "wasted" have been donated to the college free of charge for the comp and will then be reused, so the colleges are acutally better off than before the comp come along!

All the bricklayers that are entering this competition is a tiny fraction of all the fast trowels out there and can’t possibly claim to be the fastest whoever wins it …. Just for example look at changy he couldn’t be bothered but I guarantee he’d be in the final there’s so many like him and faster that ain’t got the time … so it’s just my personal thoughts but the bricklayers that’ll be in that final will be that small minority

Thats a ridiculous statement. Bit like saying I entered a BJJ comp for my ego, along with 150 other people that day hey, all stroking our egos. I couldn't possibly have entered for enjoyment, for competitiveness, to see how good I was or to accomplish a goal, purely for my ego hey. What about white collar boxing, ego, what about a golf competition, ego, London marathon, suppose that is ego too. That was hard work today for those competing and i bet they got a lot from getting it done and they will want to come back and have another go.

you work hard to encourage apprentices to come into the industry? whats the age cut off for the next generation... is it 16 to 24 ?
@Tone_Team
5 ай бұрын
Yes we do. I attend the college for open days, give talks, offer work experience and support our local college in anyway I can. We also have an intake of apprentices every Sept and currently have 13 active apprentices in various stages. Apprentices are open to everyone, only draw back for older people is the reduced earnings whilst learning which is the biggest barrier to entry for older people
@OutofPlumb-ic5pl
5 ай бұрын
@@Tone_Team only drawback is the people doing the hiring...there was someone who asked you in the comments a bit a back about some training, but once you found out their age you were less helpful, you went out your way to convince them to stay where they were.... difficult decisions for you maybe, because the youth programme you provide does not cater to adults... which is how most apprenticeships are set up... so this open to everyone is a myth, the barrier is the people, not the low salary.
@Tone_Team

@@OutofPlumb-ic5pl Our apprenticeship are open to all ages. The simple fact of the matter is when we explain the apprenticeship rate to someone who is older, they do not want to drop to that rate. It is not us that turn people away, they don’t accept. That is not my opinion, that is a fact. We have many labourers who want to learn to lay bricks but do not want to take 3 steps back to take 5 forward.
@OutofPlumb-ic5pl

@@Tone_Team youve cherry picked an example there were you point out that its something to do with low salary, but it really comes down to age. people cant just walk into these apprenticeships like they can just walk into a college and get on a course. the next generation implies just that, a young group to carry the torch, anyone in their late 30's/40's will be current gen, so that would go against the grain. so the principle of its a 'young mans game' will keep this trade as is... and not provide opportunity to all ages... look at bricklayer tv handing out free tickets for the final, to apprentices, but what do you notice about all these apprentices, same probably with your outfit, none will be over 24. its widespread... no bricklayer wants some 'fossil' on their gang.... 'if you were 16 it would be a different story', verbatim, your words to that commenter in your video on the subject as I recall... 👍
@Tone_Team

@@OutofPlumb-ic5plI’ve not cherry picked anything. I am talking about facts here, you are giving your opinion. When older people approach us about an apprenticeship and we tell them their likely salary, they decline to take us up on the offer. This is not cherry picking, this is a true statement. As people get older and have more financial commitments they simply can’t afford to undertake an apprenticeship unless their employer can match their current salary, which is unrealistic and unfair on everyone else. As for apprentices getting free tickets, it does not state an age, it simply states they must be enrolled in a course and prove they are an apprentice, no age restrictions.

It amazes me that these so called leaders and apparently strong people are so bothered by comments on KZitem! You’re on a PUBLIC platform meaning you’ll need to be open to good and bad comments, either grow some thicker skin or come off the platform!

@@jeztickles4361 When did I say I expect every comment to be nice? You really are clutching at straws. What frustrates us on the other end of KZitem is comments like yours, totally missed the point, your putting words in my mouth and my video simply addressed what I thought was a really interesting and valid point. And what amazes me is that people comment stuff on KZitem that they would never say to someones face. Ironically the trolls and negative comments actually help promote our videos. Every KZitem creator knows to expect negative and positive comments, it comes with the territory. But these comments still puzzle and amaze us!
