I kept seeing this almost painterly effect from great photoshop artists and I couldn’t figure out what they were doing. This is a amazing technique and I can’t wait to try it!

Which brush did you use? By the way, your tutorials are among the best I've seen on KZitem!

For the main paintover I just used the basic soft brush but changed the shape to be more oval in the brush's settings. And thank you!

This is a great tutorial, I hope to see more from you. You have a good voice, not too peppy and not monotonous like some other presenters. The music volume is perfect and does not intrude when you're being silent. You might consider adding some titles to show what keyboard commands or menu picks you're using, it might come in handy for beginners. Nice work, I'm subscribed.

Awesome tutorial man! I already knew about this but really motivated me to try it at last. On a side note since you mention this. I also managed to have lot of luts but I face an issue, I can't use all of them. I see them all in the list but after a certain letter it doesn't allow me to select. The letter is relative, it depends the ammount I assume, so was wondering if you ever had the same problem I tried before moving to another folder those that can select just to verify and the ones I couldn't before were now available to select. Like there was a limitation for the luts, so to speak. Keep up the good stuff!

Huh, that's interesting. I have a few hundred LUTs and have never run into an issue like that. I can't imagine why there'd be a limit, but who knows with Adobe. What I did with my LUTs is group them into folders based on where I got them and how often I use them and rename each LUT to like A1 - "folder name" | "lut name", A2 - "folder name" | "lut name" and so on so that they show up in the Photoshop list in the order I want them to be in (since Photoshop automatically puts them in alphabetical order). Hope that helps. Thanks!

Oh man. Can ANYBODY for the love of god PLEASE tell me how i didn't know about the "stamp visible" layertype. I've been breaking my head why in the f***ing world I always had to ctr-shift-alt-e --> convert to smart object --> reapply camera raw filter EVERY TIME after a change when i wanted to have two Camera Raw filters affecting one layer before and after another layers interaction FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, THANK YOU

Can this effect work in gimp?
@Damagework

Not super familiar with GIMP but with what little I've seen it seems like it can do most of the same things Photoshop can do. It just may have a different name. Something other than 'smudge".

I don't think photography luts and your final color adjustments help your digital 'painting' . The style of the portrait was realistic so keeping the colors closer to the photo would have been more appropriate. The colors you picked might have done better for a sci-fi or more abstracted piece... but took all the life out of this portrait.

It all depends on the look one wants. I wanted the image to have the warm and faded look of old portrait paintings. The main thing I wanted to show in the video was the technique for getting the oil paint look, the color toning can be whatever you want it to be in your image. Thanks for the feedback though!
