I often watch inspirational Movies prior to a game, a few examples for the genres you mentioned Post Apocalyptic - Mad Max Supernatural Horror - 13 Ghosts Science Fiction - Fifth Element Adventure - Raiders of the Lost Ark

I love Max Max and Fifth Element. Even if I was invited, I would never want to play in a horror game inspired by 13 Ghosts, that movie was too scary for me.

I like to look at Art books like Spectrum. Which is a collection of great fantasy and scifi artist's work. Even just a simple image can inspire a whole scene. I also like looking at old bad shows that most people think are awful. Bad effects bad acting but dust that off and you might find a really good plot idea that was hidden under all that bad.

HAHA, yes, I would put something like Radioactive Dreams into that category, but I think it is actually a good movie.

TV shows, video games, Manga, novels, watching my cats, etc...sometimes even stuff I see looking out the bus window on my commute to work. Also random tables. Heroes Now has been a great source of character inspiration for me for ages.

Like button pressed! In the same way as TV sometimes I get charged for trrpg-ing by falling into KZitem rabbit holes. Other times it comes from some of the side banter we get into between all the dice rolling (or in some cases card flopping, when we need a break from rpgs and delve into ccg-ing). I recently ran a little from that galaxy far far away....the FF Genius version of that universe, and it ended up being quite interesting.

For my stars without number game I used some stuff from Defiance and quite a bit of hooks and inspiration from Miami Vice. You can use quite a few of the Miami Vice stories in your RPG as hooks to get things going. The last show I used some inspiration from is La Femme Nikita from the late 90s. I didn't use this show in my game, but since you mentioned it Warehouse 13, check out Eureka. It is a fun, goofy sci-fi show with 5 seasons.

That's a great idea. Even for Post-apocalyptic, imagine finding that town years later. Is anyone still there? Is it the last bastion of modern science left on the planet?

Question of the Vid: I get inspiration from all kinds of places. There are some great Marvel comics from the 70s and 80s that are great adventure inspiration. Skull the Slayer is just one of them. I also have a writer friend that has some great novels that would be fantastic inspiration for TTRPGs. One of his series he calls his "love letter" to the Six Million Dollar Man, another is a horror western mashup. I know it's been done but I'm having lots of fun with it. Let's also not overlook other RPGs. If you like a setting from one system but are more comfortable with the core rules of another, why not adapt it? It may take some work but I bet it's worth a try. You can find creative inspiration anywhere. Ya jest need to look.

Music, more than anything. Have a number of playlists that set a mood, though they're seldom genre-specific.

When I play a character, I try and have a character theme. Sometimes, it's the source of the character. Sometimes, it just sets the mood. I've used Veteran of the Psychic Wars. Indestructible. Exctacy of Gold. Something to get me into a headspace. As a GM, I like immersion into genre types while planning things out... normally, a film or TV series to remind myself that capers and hijinks are often more spicy than vanilla combat. It isn't a story without a little drama.

In the category of post-apocalyptic, I have the following that I list as movie/tv inspirations for my Gamma World game: 9 (2009), Appleseed: Alpha, The Blood of Heroes, City of Ember, Defiance, Fallout, Judge Dredd (both movies), Life After People (2008), Love and Monsters, Mad Max: Road Warrior, Beyond Thunderdome..., Priest (2011), Vesper, Waterworld. Other ways I get inspired is 1) researching what type of new technology might be more common for Gamma World, 2) seeing what other youtubers might have to say on world building, 3) taking my inspirations, which includes movies, tv, other games, music, and webcomics and thinking of scenarios that would allow me to integrate them into the game.

I try to watch some liveplays of TTRPG sessions when I can. I am quite the introvert and sometimes I struggle with roleplay. Watching others who are good at it inspires me to push the boundaries of my comfort zone and get better at it.

QotV: one thing I di to get inspired is watch KZitem videos discussing the topic or theme of the TTRPG I am looking at running or playing. Another is to play music that is themed to the genre of game.

Servant, I would bet $$ Dark Matter was someone's Traveller campaign. Question of the Vid: I do alot of KZitem surfing for game ideas, watch different shows looking for good stories, and sometimes will put on music and surf Google images with random themes related to the desired subject, like Post-apocalyptic or space opera.

Movies and music. Some genres are easy, like if I'm planning Cyberpunk then I can throw on an in-game soundtrack or I pull up CP related playlists on Spotify or something. For awhile though, then I was running Rifts back in the day, I watched Troy, We Were Soldiers, Windtalkers, and Captain Corelli's mandolin for inspiration (which I think it was more for the war/military thing). I usually opened up the game session with the Terminator theme song

When I ran Cyberpunk, almost every game had a theme song. The music was mostly heavy metal with edgy lyrics related to the mission.

When you reached the science fiction genre, I expected you to recommend Babylon 5 the way you were hyping your choices. I binged Dark Matter during the shutdown, and I liked their take on the classic TTRPG trope. I was not happy with how it ended. Farscape I haven't been able to make it past the silliness of the first episode. Now that I am running out of things to rewatch, I'll probably give it another try.

Wide range of sources formed: one source I don’t think anyone has mentioned is video games. Xcom Enemy Unknown is good for sci fi fighting aliens. Xcom 2 can be good for post apocalyptic aliens in control.
