I agree with the lifting side. Diet side less so. If you're going to a gym. See if the offer an onsight nurtrionest. Or look into meeting one. Or your doctor. You can do your own research as well. But, be thorough. But, the point is to figure out a diet plan. Don't just drastically switch things up. Yes, it's one thing to decrease or remove junk foods. It's another to drastically alter your caloric intake and begin working out. Especially depending on your fitness goals. As for some people, it may be weight loss, for others just getting into better shape, while, yes, some want to bulk up. Generally, yes, eating less and working out can result in weight loss. As can increasing calories and protein, pluse heavy weights equal bigger build. But that is grossly simplified, and the process is more nuanced than that. Otherwise, everyone would look great.

In this video I told the things that helped me to get to the shape in the thumbnail, I started counting calories and macro's only after a year of lifting. I just ate more meat, and I stopped eating junk food.

@janiskivlenieks Agreed. And I fully understand you were speaking from personal experience and giving general advice that applies to a majority of people. I just wanted to point out that while that can work out overall. That specific fitness goal around weigh loss or muscle gain can be more challenging. So, a plan of action in that area, too, will offer better results. Like you said, walking into a gym and proceeding to lift the heaviest weights can lead to injury. Just starting to bulk, for example, may not help you achieve the best cut after if you just proceed to eat fatty and greasy foods.

I was skinny fat as well, when I started going to the gym. All I did was just clean up my diet, I stopped eating junk food, and train really hard. That's in my opinion all you need to do for about the first 5 months.
