With my Gatorskins I never had a flat tire for 5 years. Before that I was changing a flat every few weeks. I think he his exaggerated the cons, I only noticed a small difference.

What a bell end. People buying gator skins do so to allow them to commute without getting stuck on the feckin roadside 1 hour from work 30 minutes from an meeting with their boss. Fair trade off. Changing a tyre and my second puncture of the day at 6am is not amusing.

I typically rode 25mm Gatorskins. Last year I worked at a Trek store, I tried out some 32mm Bontrager R3's on my steel frame Bianchi. The R3's rode MUCH better with a max inflation of 70 psi. Loved the way they rode, hated that I managed to get 3 flats in one summer. Went back to Gatorskins but in a 32mm width. Ride better than the 25's did but not as smooth as the R3's, then again I have not had a flat since. To old to race anymore and I ride alone anyway, sticking with the Gatorskins for good.

To be fair, Gatorskins have a good amount of grip on them. I haven't had much trouble from them at all when banking tight corners. Then again, I'm not a racer, so I can't speak for how they perform in a race. I can speak for how they perform in cornering. I usually lower my center of gravity when going around the corners, so I have more confidence while using them.

I use Gatorskins on my "work hack"...had them on there for about 2 yrs now and no punctures, I love these tyres for town riding and general getting about on but id never race on them. I find them far to sketchy in fast riding and unbelievably heavy and they scrub the speed of you as soon as you rest up/stop spinning on a flat to grab a bottle. I use Vittorias on my race bike and they just roll such much better, faster, easier. Completely agree with you mate, good tyres but not for race day.

Gatorskins too heavy for ya, huh? awwwwuhhh, your wittle tires too heavy for weak wittle wegs? Make your legs stronger. Get better at cycling. Easy fix. Barring the slim chances of any of the numerous youtube cycling 'comment(ators)' who make this complaint actually being top-tier triathlon competitors or olympic-level athletes, the notion of your tire's grammage being a factor at all seems extraneous, to put it mildly. I doubt that this is of much concern to real big time, world stage cyclists at all. They got enough EPO to not worry about puny human crap like tire weight. For the everyday rider or average weekend-warrior, beer gut toting, Tour de France enthusiast-level cyclist, contemplating and openly discussing how efficacious the gains from cutting 100 grams only oozes that wonderful, odorous road bike elitism that gets everyone feeling nice 'n' important. *elitist rant concluded* JUST TO CLARIFY... gmo free, too)

If you want to experience shitty rolling then get the Marathon+'s. They roll like logs of wood. But they are the only tires that kept me from having flats all winter and that have a fair amount of grip even on snow. Didn't test the Gators yet. But let me say that the worst tire ever was the GP 4 Seasons. Had two flats in 200 Meters on my second ride with them. I am tempted to try the Gators. But price keeps me away at the moment since I have already spent so much on tires and I want some grip in the rain.

Years ago in another life, riding a tri / time trial bike with a sloped top tube, we mixed front and rear wheel size (650 front, 700 rear) - that went the way of the Dodo. Regarding tires (I do ride Gatorskin Hardshell because of the"S---TY" training road conditions), is there any benefit to mixing tire sizes (23 front, 25 rear)? Without any data I would assume that the majority of my weight is loaded onto the rear half of the bike. The benefits of riding a 25 rear (under my fat butt) would be a bit of comfort, while the front being 23 would have a bit of aero benefit and rolling speed. Any sense in mixing tire size??? Thanks!

Why use the wire bead tires. The folding gatorskin is 240 grams so not a great weight gain. A folding tire also rides better. Running a tire at 120 PSI makes the tire ride harsh, decreases traction and increases rolling resistance. 90 PSI is enough air for a 25mm tire!

Honestly, the Gatorskin is the worst tyre I've ever ridden on. I had 6 punctures over the last year. I keep my tyres pumped hard. Add to this, the general degradation and fraying of the tyre over the year, and I'm not a high mile rider. Micro splits in the rubber, the tyre wearing out quickly. Properly not happy with my experience of them. Giving Continental one last chance by swapping to the Hardshell. My riding is on the roads of central London. Before, I had experience with the Schwalbe One, which only started fraying after 3 years.

The gatorskin is a decent tire. Its much more better than what it was 4-5 years ago bc the anti puncture resistance was bad but now it's better. I still prefer the gatorskin Hardshell, it is more anti puncture then the regular one and it lasted me over 1.5 years on my track bike which is a really good spam for tracks bikes on the road, only reason I would get a flat is if I hit a pothole hard and the tube gets pinched by the rim itself

Lol i live in Scotland and love the gatorskins. Cycled home today at near freezing conditions and they held fine. Occassional spin on start from lights but no issues cornering. I have yet to slip ( i avoid all road markings ) and thats a few thousand miles through them. Fitting new one to front soon as the sidewall has a small bulge. Suspect when i remove it the inside will be fine. Side wall material is prone to nicks.

@@channelwanderer7010 Hello, I'm moving to Ireland at the end of the year and I'm shopping for as much cycling gear as possible here in the US before moving over. My question is, have you experienced any issues with them on wet roads. Ireland is a very wet country and plenty of hills on the road. I've bought at least 4 of the Pirelli Cinturato. and just recently got 4 of these because they were on sale for 35 dollars. I'm kind of worried, because I see the good reviews about them being puncture proof, but bad on damp or wet roads. I'm not a racer or anything, I just ride for fun and to lose weight. Anyway, information would help. Not sure if I should stick to buying Pirelli's when they go on sale or Continental GS.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure about track tires at all. For road I use the Grand Prix which is a really like balance of speed, low rolling resistance, good grip, while not bee too terribly easy to chew up. If you wanted to pick them up they're actually cheaper right now on Amazon than what I paid, and if you went through this link I would very very much appreciate it because it would help out the channel. It wouldn't cost you anything extra but Amazon kicks me a little but of a commission. Whether you use the link or not, thanks for getting into the comments and interacting. The title should be "How to avoid flat tires RACING:..." Your negatives about Gatosrkins apply only to serious racers trying to, as you say yourself, shave a few seconds off their times at almost any cost. I guarantee the vast majority of your audience isn't trying to do this, and would be better off with the cheaper, longer lasting Gators. To all of us, a flat is a much greater problem (and way slower actually) than a few seconds. Also, you don't mention the danger of a blowout on a downhill. Not happening with Gators. Just look at all the vids by people who love Gatorskins. I don't see any about your tires.
