Real good looking out bro! I was an owner operator from 2007pulling containers in & outta Atlanta & ended up selling my truck in 2021. Went back to company driver & bruh! These people play too much about paying you what your worth! I went to FedEx Express running air cargo because they have their own planes right? But they wanna pay $23.00 hr😳 So while I was making preparations to hop the fence & dip, I took all of the training they had to offer that would cost a grip if you had to pay outta pocket! The whole Smith System that involves a written exam, combination vehicle skills training & test. Defensive driving certification. Vehicle inspection certification. Dangerous Goods certification, hazmat certification, TSA certification, HLS awareness course & sump'em else 🤔 But anyway I took advantage of everything I could & I was already a veteran driver since 1989 but it definitely didn't hurt to learn some new stuff ya dig? So I left there because COVID had folk dropping like flys & it was slip seating & that didn't help at all! So all of that training & TSA certification & I already had my Twic card & hazmat set me up perfectly for the company called DSV Air & sea. Excellent company but horrible people running it right? I running air cargo from different freight forwarding companies too & from Hartsfield Jackson air Atlanta & temperature control medical also. 53ft dry van btw. So while I'm out there, I'm noticing all these young bruthas & sisters running sprinter vans & straight trucks. I'm like hold up, WTH is going on around dis mofo😳 So I started chop'n it up with some of the cats & I'm like daaaayum, y'all running y'all own ish & getting the bag💰? They like hell yeah bro I got 3 & 4 sprinters out there making money & building up their business! So now I'm wreckless eyeballing like a muh fuh now🤣 because my eyes had popped open & I was like, dissum bullsh-t bruh! I gotta get back on the scene & get me another truck because COVID changed the whole game & now you don't need a 18 wheeler to make money hauling freight or medical supplies or whatever! I'm seeing more companies dumping their own trucks & signing on independent contractors. I'm in Atlanta & bruh if you can't find something to haul around here you ain't trying! I want a straight truck but one of those with the custom or just a nice sleeper with a 26ft box & lift gate. Sump'em like a FedEx Custom critical set up! Small enough to run local but comfortable enough to stretch out & paper chase yanno? I was sitting up here looking at company jobs getting pissed because errrbody hiring but errrbody ain't paying 😡 So I just click on KZitem & start looking up solo straight truck owner operators & you popped up! Appreciate you my brutha! Drop'n some real nice gems & sharing knowledge! Sorry for being long-winded y'all but I know I ain't crazy when I keep telling myself or the Good Lord is saying go this way because you know waaaay more now than you did the first time out so give it another try! My pops (RIP🙏🏿) always said that nothing beats a failure but to try! I gotchu locked in my brudda & I'll be checking out your videos. Stay safe & keep God 1st & keep ya head on swivel💯✊🏿✌🏿

@Roqua710
2 жыл бұрын
I noticed nobody responded or got back to you brotha, so I'LL tell you!! Lol!! Is it possible for you to rent a van? The answer to that question is - YES. However, there are a lot of unknowns and variables you could possibly run into. For example, the company you choose to rent from, ie: Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, Budget, U-Haul, etcetera... Some are corporate and others are franchises. If you don't have your own MV/DOT/Authority (which is a state or federally issued number that allows you and/or your commercial vehicle to pick up and deliver freight either within and/or outside state lines.) - if you do not have an authority then you'll have to hook up with a company that does which would allow you to move freely using theirs bc you're affiliated under their umbrella sort of speak, even though you're your own company or business. Some of them don't allow their drivers to rent or lease. But some companies do. Just a matter of finding them. The industry standard is between 8 to 10 percent of what those companies keep per load that they hook you up with, but there are some that take like 25 percent but they offer other amenities and services. When you consider profit margins and overhead and miscellaneous expenses, gas, maintenance, etcetera, you may discover it to be quite difficult to stay "even", also keeping in mind you don't know how much money or how far that next load is going to go. You know? Here's a scenario.... You get rent a van and you're going to pay for the rental, used mileage, and insurance (some places will let you add the vehicle to your insurance, but some REQUIRE that you have yours and also theirs). Average rental for the week could be anywhere between 400 to 800 dollars a week. At .29 sense a mile, let's say you drove 1500 miles in a week. That's an additional 435 bucks. Plus insurance, commercial 1 million dollar liability and 100,000 injury coverage (depends on your license) that rate could be 200 to 500... At you can see it'll add up QUICK and might not be worth it. Now if you hotshot or bunny hop around?? Like stay within a 6 to 10 state radius near your state? You could stay "busier" and running more consistently loads more often, but you'll get 350, 4, 5, 800 dollar loads... As opposed to getting a 4500 load you gotta bring to Seattle in 2 or 3 days from Miami and then waiting around again for another reload from the company your working with. Oh, that's also not including deadheading - which is driving to a pickup that's 20 minutes to 12 hours away ON YOUR DIME!! My advice?? Get your van. If you can arrange a rental with a rental company to not charge you mileage and have unlimited mileage, have the ability to add it to YOUR insurance (not theirs) and you can have a FLAT monthly rate for the rental?? Do that. Bc that's the only way that you'll actually benefit from it and see a profit. Also, get your own authority. You'll open up a lot of other possible avenues that way and not limited to the mercy of another company getting you loads/work. And don't start in the summer, start in the fall going into winter, it'll be busier and easier to find work and money will be consistent. But good luck trying to find a van to rent around that time. Bc Amazon, UPS, and other major cooperate fleets rent them all up and keep them forever. But this has been MY experience man. Could be different for you... Only way to find out is to pull the trigger and find out for yourself. There's no greater teacher in life than LIFE itself. Life teaches all of us brotha. Hope this helps, good luck 🤙🤙🤙

@@Roqua710 AHH BOY! I Thank You appreciate this so much. I have a dispatch company already and I want to be able to use my other LLC to run a rented van for loads dispatched by me until I found the means of buying a van. Basically starting from rock bottom. So to be clear I can have my own authority and MC and run rented vans correct?

ALOT of these companies are trash! Just stopped driving for courier express absolutely scams.. Notice up to. I had a driver deliver for 6 hours & grossed 12 dollars! Check the turnover rate before taking it.

I want to buy my own sprinter van. But I want to know if I am an independent company. Because I have to register as one to my understanding. Is there still some sort of background check being conducted as well as some sort of drug testing in order to get any of these contracts or jobs off these apps ??? And under what sort of conditions will you be drug tested driving cargo vans ?
