This is the single greatest music marketing video I’ve ever seen 😭 I’ve been looking for something that gets into the psychology and human connection aspect of the music and marketing, and this is perfect!

Great video! - 🤩 - I just discovered Spotify 'Clips' yesterday. 30 second videos. I thought... well that sounds like fun... but for a boring instrumentalist in a 'peaceful piano' genre, I was thinking... like what type of video would appeal? My standard Instagram videos wouldn't work. So, I want them to FEEL what I was thinking when I wrote the piece? But they might be thinking something completely different... It's hard. The Spotify clips that "I" like best are short little 3 second snippets all tied together type of thing. Generally taken from the long form KZitem video. - But I don't want to be in the video, I think that would be boring. Lots to think about. Plus, I don't think most listeners know about 'clips' yet. But I could be wrong. 🤨

Hey Tom! I have a question! I’ve been running a fb ads traffic campaign directed to Spotify. I’ve been getting a ton of link clicks but unfortunately it rarely translates to a stream. In about every 20/30 clicks I get 3/4 streams. I’m just targeting one country (Portugal) which is a tier 1 country so I ruled out the bots possibility. I’ve also set the interests to Spotify, but I’ve been wondering: is it possibly that the ad is reaching people that don’t have Spotify, thus the low stream numbers? I’m very confused about all this

Good points, it all starts with a song. I think the marketing dudes take things way too literal, listeners have no problems identifying with the “I” in a first person pow song, that’s the common ground. We are all “I”s, and live from the inside, audience can certainly emphatize with that. It keeps it real, which justifies a deeper connection.

The point about "I" I'm making in this video isn't about using it in your song (that's a good thing, and I agree with your point), it's about how you position the song in your marketing. "I went through a breakup, listen to my song" is not as powerful as "Have you ever been though a breakup? Then this song's for you". The second one speaks to the listener and connects with them on their journey instead of making it all about you, the artist. Once they're listening to the song, lyrics like "I went through a breakup" make total sense, and I prefer that method of songwriting too. Because the listener is going to hear that "I" in their first person, not yours (again, I agree with your point here). Music speaks and connects differently than marketing.

@@tomdupreeiii yeah, there is no consensus nor evidence that a specific wording will work in marketing, though. Either way, avoid it look like selling or anything corporate at all cost..
