I’m still loving watching these, thank you for sharing. I’m still remembering my dad watching these and reminiscing about his RAF National Service experience, and laughing along to this…. Corporal Marsh DID exist!

0:45 Flt Lt Grant's use of the word "expediency" is of interest from an etymological standpoint. Cpl Marsh has interpreted the word to mean "with haste" - hence his response. This is in fact an obsolete and archaic meaning of the word. I would submit that the Officer meant the word to mean "as a matter of convenience", which I reckon explains the awkward pause after Marsh's response. Excellent piece of script writing and acting that!

Despite your apparent knowledge of the language you still manage to fluff your final sentence, which should read: That (best place for it) was excellent script writing and acting. (No need for an exclamation mark.)

10:50 That's a 1970's Beano, not one from 1955. I believe Biffo the Bear was still the cover star in the 50's, Dennis didn't feature on the cover until much later.

Enjoyable and well constructed comedy, and with some excellent moments of touching and moving deeper meaning, such as when Lilley has to pray for Marsh to be forgiven. Very well written script. And not least it wears well and is very funny. Shame there's no equal these days!.

I admit to spending approx 7 months prison time in one of these places.. All though ' BAD '.. some of it was good to experience.. The place was called " Gaynes Hall '..and had become an open prison with 3 ' houses ' This programme bringing it all back.. If you have seen Shawshank Redemption.. where the Screw gives everyone a beer... Our little group did some Hay work for a local farmer... He also gave us beers... It really can happen ... Anyway... this is good series

Your maths is wrong basic training in 1955 was 6 weeks not 8 weeks then it was 5 to 6 weeks trade training except medics training was longer

Someone got their sums wrong here. For Marsh to have trained 144 flights at 8 weeks basic training each, it would have taken him about 23 years. And yet GSI is set in 1955. Only 10 years after WWII finished.
