What a fantastic job of explaining off camera flash. You take your time go step by step and speak slowly. Most of these videos go too fast and always skip parts that I think they think we already know. Thank you so much for helping me with this topic. Keep more videos coming.

Thank you so much!!! I watched tons of videos but was left clueless about disabling pop up on my 70d and ONLY firing the off camera flash (i have 430exiii rt). All along I was seeing both flashes go off and I was going crazy. You explained so well that pop up flash will actually light up but won’t alter exposure. Nobody told that. I only accidentally came to your video, but now I am subscribing and following you. Thank you again for helping me solve the mystery!

Getting the flash off your camera is a major step in getting better flash pictures. In my other flash videos I did mention more about the need to bounce the flash and the use of diffusers to improve the way flash pictures look. You might want to check them out. Thanks for commenting and watching my boring videos :).

Great video! Very clearly explained. Does the Canon SL2 have this same capability? To trigger off camera flash via the built-in pop flash?
@TonghoPhotography

Hi Studio D, thanks for commenting! The SL2, unfortunately, does not have this function with the pop-up flash. You will need an external flash mounted on the hot shoe to perform this function.

@@TonghoPhotography Thanks very much for responding. Would the 270 EX II mounted on the SL2 be able to trigger a 430 EX II?
@TonghoPhotography
2 жыл бұрын
@@sl2608 The answer, unfortunately, is No. The 270EXII is only capable of being a slave (remote flash) and not a controller. If you have both the 270EXII and 430EXII, you'll need to mount the 430 on camera and use the 270 as the remote.

I can do this on the 7D But with a 5D MKII there is no built in flash So how? Do I have to buy another flash?
@TonghoPhotography
6 жыл бұрын
For the 5D's there is no optical flash control so in order to do this, you'd need to mount on the hotshoe either another flash (for use as controller) or get a dedicated controller. Canon makes one called the ST-E2.

I mean... Is it possible to fire the external flash without shooting the biut in flash and without a radio control, in a Canon sl2? And thank you for de video.
@TonghoPhotography
5 жыл бұрын
@@leonardoaydos The SL2 does not have the capability to control remote flashes optically or via radio(none of the Canon DSLRs has built-in control via radio). In order to control, you will need to have an external controller - ST-E2 for optical or a ST-E3-RT for radio. Either the ST-E2 or ST-E3-RT will not need the built-in flash.
