Your advice worked great. We discovered a bat sleeping on a wall at night. Hanging sheets over the entrances to the living room where he was, we sealed off the room. Then, we opened the front door and we turned off all the lights except for the front porch light. Sensing the outdoor air and seeing the porch light, he flew out on his own within 15 minutes. Thank you for helping us get this beautiful creature back flying in the night sky!❤

It worked well and _I did not wait for the Bat to fly around and get tired_ *yet the total time from first seeing it until I watched the bat fly out the window was less than 25 minutes* - that includes finding and watching this video before I began. I chose (wide open) Window instead of door for pet reasons (but I am very, very lucky to be able to spoil my Cat with indoor/outdoor time, he loves both, I love him). It's night time, cool and damp outside but the Bat still was back outside quickly. Thank you.

Worked a treat! 22:30 and my wife calls me to tell me there’s a bat in the house. It was in my daughter’s bedroom. I opened the window, shut the door, turned off what low level lights were on and turned on outside lights. The bat flew out the bedroom window within a minute. Common sense wins. Yay! =]

If they live in your house your F'ed. I live upstate NY and we get them. I'm terrified of rabies. Yes it is rare but still happens and you can be that small percentage. In NYS bats are protected which annoys me. So what they kill bugs. So do I. I don't need me or my kids to get rabies. Shits scary. But to get rid of them inside your home it costs thousands that most don't have

Oh my God, tell me about it. I’ve already told the story twice in the comments, but last August like at the very end, my son saw a shadow in the kitchen at night and it ended up being a bat and of course, we freaked out. Left the room and lost it. Probably scared it because you can’t freak out when they come in or it will scare them into hiding. But anyway, we couldn’t find it so we had to ultimately go to bed and pray that it wasn’t in the living room because we knew that it was in the kitchen when we had last saw it. so fast-forward three days and barricading herself in the living room with a sheet and always going into the kitchen with a flyswatter, the kid next-door came running in three days later saying he saw the bat and sure enough, it was in there in the living room flying around at 5 PM. So it got trapped in the window and I ran in and shut the window and stupidly. I let my neighbors talk me into cutting the screen to let it out instead of calling, the health department to see if it had rabies or not because you cannot ever tell if you’ve been bit or scratched because they’re so small you won’t feel it in your sleep. Fast-forward a week after the bat was out and I got so sick a month like sicker than I’ve ever been coughing and couldn’t breathe and then it went away about a month and then maybe a couple weeks later came back and that was like a month and a half that I was sick same thing couldn’t breathe and was coughing. But ever since then I can’t breathe at all and then gradually it turned into a lump in my throat so I don’t know if it’s just coincidence or not but I was completely healthy before that bat was in here.

Yeah, the hard part was keeping it flying around.. it got in at like 1 am when i went outside.. it landed, we took our eyes off for a couple of minutes to figure out what to do, and it disappeared.. we had all doors shut except the front door with the outside light shining.. Ultimately, we called pest control, and he found it in the morning curled up in the window curtain, sleeping like 6 hours later..

@Quietplague2000 The guy who removed it owned the company himself.. so it wasn't a huge company or anything.. but he charged me $100 to remove it. He also told me when i called that he'd come look for it and would charge me $50 even if he never found it. So, $50 to look and not remove, $100 to remove. I had talked to another place that couldn't get out to us for like 2 days.. they quoted me like $120 to remove it.. If you're going through this right now, I feel for you.. it was super stressful.. one thing I will say is that you should make sure that whoever removes it has it sent in for rabies testing.. most state health departments will do it for free.. just to be sure whether you need to get the rabies shots or not.. we opted not to, and I was terrified for my whole family until we got past the amount of time for symptoms to appear.. so just get it tested. It's way less stressful even if you don't think anyone came into contact with it.

Hang a drape at ninety degrees to the window and shine a torch light onto the window or outside the window. This works at night even with windows that don't open all the way. The drape gives the bat something to see next to the escape route so it doesn't keep flying back and to.

If it's at night, do the same thing but don't open the door. Get a large plastic container and a piece of cardboard. Eventually the bat gets tired from constantly flying and will perch somewhere. Approach it slowly - it won't fly away. Cover it with the plastic container, then slide the cardboard under to keep it in there. Bring it outside near a tree, then let it go. You want to do it near a tree because bats can't fly from the ground - they need to "fall" off something - they'll usually climb a tree a few feet to do so. Or if you have a ledge, that works as well.

Thank you for this tip, but yeah, what are you gonna do at night time? When there’s no light to attract it to. How do you approach that situation. We just had a bat in our house last August and it was hell because it was in here three days and we didn’t know it. Couldn’t find it the same night it was in here and then we assumed it found its way out and then the neighbor kid next-door ran over at five in the afternoon, saying Jenn I just saw the bat flying around. So it had been in the house three days. Then after that, I got real sick and I’ve been sick since.
