Thank you so much. As a complete novice, I ordered a power supply and copied your actions on an old sony ccd-fx420 camccorder and retrieved a long-lost stuck tape of my 2nd birthday to get digitized!

Very nice Video. I have an old Canon 8mm Camcorder, and I have some Problems: 1. when I Plug it in, the tape door opens immediately, without turning the Camcorder On. 2. Sometimes I can‘t close the tape Door When I Will play my Tapes 3. Camcorder does not rewind the tape in the Full speed. Only slow rewind and slow fast forward Camcorder Plays Fine the Tapes and eject without eating the tape. You make me happy when you explain the problem, and Its Hard to fix that. What can I do? Its the mechanism from the Camcorder Same like by many VCRS, with Gears and Reels. I have a lot of experience with fixing VCRs , But Not with Camcorders. I have a feeling that is a three big problems wich I Could not slove…

It's not really possible to fix things by remote control like this. You need to examine the deck carefully. It might be a mode switch fault, a damaged flexi cable, an electronic fault or another mechanical failure. Sorry, I can't really offer an accurate diagnosis.

Nicely extracted :-D The starting tape should have nothing much on it, so no big loss. Shame the servo system is deader than bell bottom trowsers lol.

Thanks for the video. How did you know which motor terminals to apply power to?
@video99couk
2 жыл бұрын
It's generally the only DC motor in a camcorder. The other two motors (drum and capstan/reel) are usually very different, flat looking motors with multi-way connectors.

@@video99couk Okay, thanks. Any advice on bypassing the moisture sensor on a camcorder, apparently the part that causes the whole thing to shut down and be unusable?

What is the device you are using to apply voltage to the motor when you unplugged it?
@video99couk

A bench variable power supply. But three AA batteries providing 4.5V will do it fine.

You really need to power the loading motor, but a 4.5V battery (three x AA cells) will do it if you don't have a power supply.

Hi, I haven't got an adjustable power supply like yours. Would say thre 1.5v batteries do the same thing please? I have tried but seem to get no movement from the load motor.

Hi from Australia, any chance you can do a video on how to attatch a broken tape to the spool? Ie that little peice of plastic on the spool that you have to flick out then place the tape underneath and replace ??. Much appreciated
@video99couk
2 жыл бұрын
The way that piece of plastic attaches, varies from one manufacturer to another. It might be simpler to get a scrap tape and fit a replacement spool, then splice to the leader tape.

Hi I just wanted to ask, I bought a Sony Video8 camcorder but it didn't come with any tapes. I found that Hi8 are cheaper than Video8 tapes, would those work in a regular Video8 recorder? Cheers

I’ve got a Sony TR101. Pulled it off the shelf for the first time in years. Worked fine for an hour, then the tape reels would spin, but no transport control was available, no ejection was possible, and the counter flashed “00:00:00” with the ‘eject’ indicator also flashing. Shut it all down for three hours, came back, powered it on, the reels pulled up any slack, and I was able to eject the tape. What might cause this failure as the unit gets hot?
@video99couk

It's impossible to fault find my remote control like this, there are any number of possible causes including failure of capacitors on the PCBs. It could just be a bad tape or contaminated heads, though I suspect not.
@cpkdude803

@@video99couk - Thanks. I’ve repeated the leave-power-off for a couple of hours to rectify. It’s a repeatable solution, so whatever’s getting hot on the board, PCB’s you think, is likely the problem. I’ve used various tapes and all play fine, for an hour or two.

Probably has failure of many of the surface mount electrolytic capacitors on the boards. Repairing this is a skilled and time consuming job. Sorry, it's probably not practical.

It's not possible to diagnose faults like this from a distance, but it probably has mass capacitor failure and a bad battery. It's probably not practical to repair.

No I've never worked on a VHSC camcorder, they were much less popular than 8mm. The principles will be similar but the loading motor may be less accessible, possibly beneath the deck.

This may not be a simple repair and isn't something that people can usually solve unless they have worked on this sort of equipment and have the right tools. Sorry there's not likely to be a quick fix for that.
