Hey Mason, you just keep doing what you're doing being disabled as far as you let it disable you in your mind not in your body. Fortunately, even after 40 years due to my leg spasms, I've had atrophy but nothing to where I have no muscle, fortunately you can see the muscle in my thighs. As for my upper body, I function like a paraplegic with exception of my fingers. Some days I look at my feet and my legs feel everything tensing up yet they just won't move for me. You keep making these videos an keep giving people hope and encouragement👍🏾

Hello Mason! Great video and thanks for the update! I'm a C6/C7 incomplete quadriplegic with very similar mobility. You mentioned you played call of duty. I play a lot of call of duty and a ton of other games on the Xbox. I would love to play sometime if you would like to do that? I use an adaptive controller paired with a regular controller on my lap to play. It's quite fun 👍

@@masonx54 that's another reason why I won't use one...besides the 'use it or lose it' thing.

Why, because of funding? As far as use it or lose it, that's what exercising is for. It's better than overusing it on a manual wheelchair, because our arms are not built for that. At least that's how I think about it.
@morgancalvi6675
4 ай бұрын
@@masonx54 not sire if you were talking to me or not. But, if you were, yep, you're right...exercising will enable you to keep it regarding the use it or lose it thing...which is one reason why I stay in a manual chair. I have A LOT pf damage high in my neck...exercising it would be REALLY bad! I'd end up on a vent...which is why I suggest you put a disclaimer! As you age..normal wear and tear will be A LOT more. If I can, I buy things out of pocket because the US will take things if they think you are using them for funding. Check out the Real Estate Recovery program. If you are over 55 and die...having used Medicaid (or Medi-Cal...or other names Medicaid uses), they will confiscate your house when you die. Even if you will it to someone else. The state will trump any will. I don't think they will take a trust thing though. BUT I broke my neck goofing off in a power wheelchair.

Oh yeah, a standing wheelchair is a must in my opinion now that I have one. I can't imagine sitting all day. I could use my standing frame, but the standing wheelchair is much more beneficial because you can stand anywhere, anytime. What kind of intense training? Are you doing it yourself at home or going somewhere else and getting assistance?

You should put a disclaimer about the neck exercises. When I first got injured, I too thought neck exercises were what I should do. WRONG! There's A LOT more wear and tear and doing strenuous neck exercises will make that wear and tear A LOT worse. I refuse to use a power chair...so a van with a lift will never, ever be something I can use (a manual chair and driving with an EZ Rest is BAD, BAD NEWS)...and I'm thinking a winch will pull the chair in the car because I just can't pick it up and put it in. Do you have any tips on that?

Hi Mason Did you ever experience constant chills? Also you recommend the leg compression. Do you know of any type of information I can share with my brothers Dr about them. When I brought them on he didn’t understand how the compression tights help with feeling light headed. TIA
@masonx54

Constant chills? I am cold most of the time because the body has difficulty regulating temperature after spinal cord injury. If your doctor doesn't understand how compression helps with lightheadedness, I suggest a different doctor. "port the blood circulation in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) (1). Improvement of lower-extremity circulation is a desirable goal in the acute, as well as in the long-term, management of SCI." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2565483/#:~:text=Elastic%20compression%20stockings%20are%20typically,%2Dterm%2C%20management%20of%20SCI.
