Hi, sorry for some reason I didn't see you comment until now. There are a couple of nodes that can be used for that. Slope blur and Warp Dilation. There are some good examples of that among the free materials on the Material Maker homepage.

@@shivateja9417 Sorry I'm not sure I understand what it is you want to do. Normally I'd say something like that you would want to add to a game for example, you would add as it's own texture on top on a plane. You can use image textures inside material maker, but it wouldn't make much sense to make a piece of wall material that had an image embedded in it to me. You can jump on my discord if you want to explain it more, maybe I misunderstand what you are asking.

Hi! I am currently running on version 1.2 and for some reason my repeat node can't be connected to the colorize node. Any way for me to fix that?
@KasperFrandsen
Жыл бұрын
Hi Toni, in the newer version of Material Maker you need to connect the Fill output to a "to random grey" node to generate the random values for each brick. The "Fill To ..." nodes can do a bunch of clever stuff, which is why we went over to that system, but it does mean you need an extra node here or there.

Hi! Excellent tool and excellent tutorial, thank you for this! I'm a bit slow, but in 12:15, I was wondering how did you reveal the random colors when you went to the repeat value? Also, at this point, when I changed the Running bond to any other type, it crashed Material Maker, not gonna mess with that yet. Then I noticed 0.94 on the tutorial, seeing that I'm using 1.0, I went and made a search for a randomize node, to see if maybe this was a change in the versions, and sure enough, there is a randomize node, you just put it after Repeat and before Colorize, it does the same thing.
@KasperFrandsen
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, a few things have changed since this tuturial. You now need to connect the "Fill" output to a "fill to random color" to get the random color values. To see the values on the node you now right click on an output. It really shouldn't crash when you change the mode. Please log a bug for that on the github repo or go on the discord channel and report it in there. The randomize node is just meant to take a set of random ids and generate new ones, you shouldn't need it in this case.

Hello Can you tell me How can I make tileable noise texture ? Is it just link noise node to make tileable node?
@KasperFrandsen
2 ай бұрын
all the noise nodes are tileable by default, so if you export any of them from the 2D preview you will get out a tileable noise.

really cool, and great idea. Great job. curious, when the material is brought into godot, is it setup as baked images, or is a procedural node (visual shader) created in godot? thanks
@KasperFrandsen
3 жыл бұрын
Hmm I don't know why I didn't answer this, sorry must have missed it somehow. Generally you'll export as textures, so it's no longer procedural. But in .96 the option got added to export as Dynamic Materials, where parts of the material are still shader based and can be recalculated on the fly. Though it's not gonna show up as shader nodes in Godot, just a custom shader with parameters you can set up yourself.

@KasperFrandsen

Hi Alexis, well the screenshot function is normally very straightforward. It just asks you where to save a screenshot and then it captures the entire graph. If you are having any issues with it you should probably jump on the discord and explain the issue or log a bug on the GitHub.

How do you make the textures? I have no idea how do people create normal, depth and occlusion textures, is there a tool for it?
@KasperFrandsen
3 жыл бұрын
Sorry maybe it's not clear in the video. When I export the material at the end it generates all those textures in the folder I selected. That's what Material Maker does. You set up the material and export it and it outputs all the textures needed.

@@KasperFrandsen Ooh, I see. But you already started with simple normal and depth maps, did you made them by hand? How do you know the precise color of each normal vector?
@KasperFrandsen
3 жыл бұрын
@@rafaelbordoni516 The normal map is just generated with the "Normal Map" node by giving it any height based information. In my example I use the bricks pattern generator for that, but you can pass any greyscale input to it that could be seen as a heightmap and the Normal Map node would calculate the normal map for you. You don't need to think about the vectors or do any manual steps.

how can i learn to make all these materials or what to use to create something?
@ehsancharolia3297
3 жыл бұрын
You should first start by researching what different types of maps make up materials that have appearance similar to ones in real life. Especially the main ones like Albedo, roughness, normal maps, etc. Using softwares like material maker, substance designer, and blender's shader editor, you're basically building up those maps using parameters that you can change and tweak later on (essentially what "procedural" means). So once you understand how those maps work, you'll be on your way to building your own materials.

I genuinely want to know what are the pros and cons of using this kind of software vs baking the textures yourself/ using cc0 real life textures?
@KasperFrandsen
3 жыл бұрын
Well compared to baking the texture out, by for example modeling everything in 3d first, this is much faster and it is made to output perfectly tiling textures, whereas you might have to put in a lot of work to achieve that with baking. Compared to scanned textures, it basically just offers much more control and works with different art styles as opposed to just photo realistic stuff. You could also easily import a set of textures in from CC0 textures and add more levels of details that correctly merged with the height data with Material Maker, so it has a lot of uses.
@sanyi9667
3 жыл бұрын
@@KasperFrandsen personally I see it more as a change in pipeline, before you had to export the baked texture in gimp/ps to retouch and now you can make it here (sort of). Personally I believe it takes longer to use those kind of softwares (substance painter/ material maker/ substance designer) than just export and retouch. But as I see those kind of programs take more and more traction I feel like I'm missing out on something. I should get into it but I don't have much time...

nice tutorial! on a scale to one to ten, how similar is the material maker to blender shader editor?
@KasperFrandsen
3 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's a bit difficult to answer, I'd probably say pretty similar, so maybe 7 :P. But a lot of stuff is simpler in MM since you can see the previews immediately and you can do per pixel operations like Gaussian blur.

Really loving this tutorial! Only issue I got was at the end when I put the material onto a mesh, the material acts as if the texture is tiny, when it's 2048 x 2048 like in video, so i cant quite figure out yet why the texture isn't repeating properly in Godot.
@KasperFrandsen
3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I'm not completely sure what you mean. The texture resolution doesn't affect how large the textures are displayed, that will all depend on the UVs. So you will want to ensure your model is UV unwrapped correctly and that you set the UV scale on the material. EDIT: I saw your question on Discord and answered it there, but yeah your problem is the UV scale, set it to 3, 2.
