Thank you so much for this Marisa! I'm just finding your channel because I've been researching how I can live a more holistic, balanced life. I'm a single mother of 5 who just returned from living abroad in Ghana, West Africa. My oldest child, 17, was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4, but lost his speech and cognition at 22 months. This is the breakthrough solution I've been needing for him. Every time I wanted to go down the road of looking at the gut-brain connection with his father, he shot me down. However, I don't have time to focus on the setbacks. I believe in divine timing and you have been put here at the right time for me to discover your content. Please keep it up. We're women of a similar heart.

Thinking about doing this with my 4,3 + 1 year old. For the last week we have eliminated gluten and dairy to help improve their digestion and that alone is already proving fruitful. But I don't want to be gluten and dairy free for the rest of my life (or theirs) and I've heard so many people reversing sensitivities and allergies using the gaps diet. LIke you say near the end of the day think of what are doing for your future health. It definitely won't be easy (especially as we are about to have our 4th) but I keep thinking I need to choose my hard. They're both hard but one has a better end result than the other!!!

Thank you Marisa for this video! I have this GAPS diet book, my sister sent it to me. I have been dealing with severe candida symptoms for over six months now. I’m 40 and pretty sure I’ve had Candida overgrowth for many, many years but just recently went over the cliff due to diverting from the Keto diet and then 2 rounds of antibiotics my Dr put me on. I’m sure my Advair inhaler didn’t help either as I have thrush on my tongue. 😣 The Advair was prescribed to me almost 4 years ago because of a cough I had but I was never diagnosed asthmatic! I believe the cough may have even been related to Candida back then. My symptoms now are a horrible, chronic cough that affects me mostly at night, waking me between 1-2 am EVERY night. And first thing in the morning I just cough and wheeze terribly and can feel my esophagus constricting. Anal itching, no vaginal yeast infections thank God! Joint pain, constipation, food sensitivities, sneezing, severe congestion, headaches at times, fatigue, mood imbalances, brain fog and concentration issues. I just started the book last night before bed and am only on page 13 but WOW! So sad how conventional medicine is blind to this or, I dunno what you would actually call it. Seems like more Dr’s should be aware and informed about this! I know this is going to be a long road for me and glad my husband is behind me on this. I had to leave my job because I LITERALLY could not function anymore. He’s been very patient with me even tho I know I haven’t been very pleasant to be around a lot of the time since going through these symptoms for so long. I can’t wait to get back to a place where I am TRULY happy, for REAL happy again. Thank you for everything you do and all your videos with loads of info. All that to now ask my question lol. I always buy organic fruits and veggies. I buy free range chicken and eggs. Is uncured organic bacon ok to eat? Sometimes I buy grass fed organic ground beef but not all the time. On the diet I will be switching to more whole type of beef products too, but do those need to be pasture raised? I think I’ll be starting on the full GAPS before transitioning to the intro phase, just because of my constipation and help to ease these die off symptoms. Thanks again, sorry so long. Take care and God bless! ❤️

Thanks for sharing! Yes, uncured organic bacon with no sugar is great :) Pasture raised is ideal, but Dr. Natasha says to do the best you can with meats but prioritize organic produce, because animals have detox systems while plants don't. Sending well wishes, and feel free to email if I can help further!

Would you make a video that addresses the ph balance of the body while on gaps and how to manage a healthy ph while eating all of these acidic foods. A good ph of 7 is best for easier detoxification in the body. But most of the foods in the intro diet are acidic.

Dose one have to buy grass fed grads finished meat? We are a family of 5 kids 2 adults and, I don't know about the US but it is extremely expensive to buy grass fed grass finished beef. The best we can do out here with a family our size is buy from local farmers or butcher. We do not buy meat from groceries stores. Can we still get the same healing results even if the meat and bones we use aren't exactly GF-GF?

Thank you for the prep interview. I have been thinking of going on the GAPS diet, except I have some big concerns. I am presently on a carnivore diet, it took me approx 6 mo to totally transition. Given my history of many meds and prophylactic's antibiotics for much of my life, my gut is extremely damaged, IBD, many allergies, sensitivities, symptoms. This issue, I discovered almost 2 yrs ago, has been compounded with oxalate poisoning, which has exacerbated a HI issue, possibly MCAS. Have had some testing and because of numerous nutrient deficiencies was even endogenously making oxalates. I have been heavily dumping for 2 yrs and I am pretty sure I have a long way yet to go, have ben housebound for most of it. This is where my concern comes in, the juicing is probably not ideal for me because of oxalates. I am also nervous to bring back vegs because I no longer have oxabacter formigenes to degrade oxalates, and I do take probiotics, transient as they are, with the hope they are degrading oxalates, albeit to a much lesser degree. I see that Dr N C McBride has Gut and Physiology book geared more to autoimmunity issues( I have numerous) and I'm wondering if it is as heavy on the juicing/plants as the original GAPS diet. I wanted to scan the book and take the book out from the library, but they dont have it so I'm wondering if you are aware of how it compares. The carnivore diet along with many supps has helped but I'm far from good, and most of all oxalates and histamines are here to stay, we can entirely avoid them and I would really like to add some back in. Any advice/direction/opinions would be appreciated. I've only recently discovered you and very much like what you do

Good question! It's too long to explain in a YT comment, but Dr. Natasha explains it in detail in this book: smile.amazon.com/Gut-Physiology-Syndrome-Autoimmune-Neurological/dp/0954852079/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=gut+and+physiology&qid=1609973775&sr=8-1

Hi Marisa Iv'e actually got a slow cooker going as we speak..making my 4th batch of bone broth....🙂i love this stuff but in this batch I only added vinegar and of course onion, celery and carrots I however didn't add any salt as my previous batch I used pure rock salt and it came out sooooo salty...so when this batch is done and ready to eat I will add my salt....my gut issues are crazy as Ive explained before but Iv'e put my mind to it and will be starting next week. There will also be some weightloss on the GAPS diet I'm sure? Thank you for sharing your knowledge

You're welcome! Bone broth is allowed later on full GAPS, but you need to be making meat stock for GAPS intro. I show how to do that here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/sKiA2qyjnXqaoYI

Hey Marissa! I've been watching a lot of your GAPS videos and I can't find the one I'm looking for. I remember you saying that if you are really constipated you should start on the full GAPS diet. Is that right?
@BumblebeeApothecary

That's right, full GAPS is the place to start if you have constipation. This might be the one: kzitem.info/news/bejne/rIGr151tmJqcq6w

I'm very interested in doing this but I need to ask about the Herxheimer Reaction (bad bacteria releasing toxins in your gut as your diet kills them). Whenever I try to eat well with certain foods (like kefir, or anything that promotes healthy bacteria in the gut) it makes me really sick. Is this something that's typical with the GAPS diet? I watched many of your videos in the last hour and GAPS seems like it's what I've been searching for all these years, but I need to know how the Herxheimer Reaction factors into this. Thanks for your help.
@BumblebeeApothecary
3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, the die off reaction is something that pretty much everyone experiences when they start GAPS. It's a good thing, because the bad bacteria is leaving, but there are ways to manage it. Dr. Natasha recommends starting very small and slow when introducing probiotic foods. Some people have to start with just a drop, or even less, and work their way up. I hope that helps! Feel free to DM on Instagram @bumblebeeapothecary if you'd like to chat more about this!

@BumblebeeApothecary

I can understand! You could start with the full diet, do that for a while, and then go through the introduction diet once you’ve gained a bit more weight. I will say that I struggled with being quite underweight also, and I started gaining right away on the introduction diet. 😊

Hi my little one is nearly 3yo,he has behavior issues and bit delayed. I could agree its all from gut as ever since birth he had troubles to digest. Now gaps seems like magician who could turn our life's over. But seem impossible to implement it whole. He is one of the twin, they both are fussy and prefer junk foods, don't eat soup at all. They stopped with milk in 10months old(were breastfed only first month, rest was aptamilk). They are in nursery everyday so I can't lock them out of food choices or crying over food others eat. Please it is possible to reach gut heal with implementing stocks & probiotics while not eliminating all of other foods? Many thanks
@BumblebeeApothecary
3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your little one. Adding in the meat stock and probiotic would definitely help, but it is the gut bacteria that determine what they like to eat. The best way to change that is to follow GAPS. It's pretty hard to get kids to eat soups and probiotic foods while their gut bacteria is still being fed starchy and sweet foods, but you could try! Reach out on Instagram @bumblebeeapothecary if I can help further. Sending well wishes!

For the most part we eat this way plus properly prepared grains, potatoes, etc. for people who don't need to be strictly on it. My oldest only went on it for a short time at age 5. My second has been on it most of his life, but after addressing metals with him I think he'll be able to transition off. My third is only 19 months so he still eats this way. It just depends what they're needs are :)

Can a vegetarian do this diet?
@BumblebeeApothecary

I don’t think that would work. The diet relies a lot on animals fats and meats to heal the body. Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride actually wrote a book about vegetarianism, and I highly recommend it. It is called “Vegetarianism Explained: Making an Informed Decision.” I hope that helps! 😊
