It's been hectic behind the scenes this past week, but I got a rare weekday opportunity to head to one of my usual spots with the Yellowfin. I recently grabbed a new rod, a Veritas PLX (7' Medium), and this was my first trip out with it. It took way too long to get some bites...missed a Plop bite, dorked around with a jerkbait for no bites, and then settled back onto the weightless wacky (YUM dinger; Black with Blue flake) to get some Greenies pulling back on the PLX. The first fish ran about average for this spot in recent months, but we ended up lipping a few in the 2+ pound range, thankfully. I eventually broke off the leader on the wacky setup (not shown here) so I switched over to the squarebill since the storm was getting close and I needed to get near the launch spot to prepare for a quick exit before the bottom fell out of the clouds. We found out that a not small Crappie had latched onto the trebles and allowed me to go into full Richard Gene mode for the Twitch viewers. Tired, aching, and dehydrated, but it was worth it for the WOO!
