A big thank you to the NPS and Addressing Gettysburg for partnering up to record the winter lectures! Ranger Smith gave an excellent presentation.

Matt, I am not surprised but excellent quality. I really appreciated the close-up and editing of the video you did to follow along with the narration. Thank you for the extra work you are putting in to bring this content to those of us not able to visit Gettysburg right now.

Thanks, Adam. Unfortunately not every lecture will have two cameras but every lecture with artifacts will.

Great lecture; don't often hear much about the Civil War era navy. I learned a lot about pre-1862 ratings. Please post more lectures.

Hi Matt I listened to this one while working the only thing I thought was background noise was a little high. Now I’m 62 and my hearing isn’t great. I enjoyed this one and looking forward to more

yeah we had an issue with the radio signal of the mic Karlton was wearing. Shouldn't happen again, but it was impossible to fix it while he was speaking because i would have had to interrupt him to do it. My hearing stinks too and the audio on this one kills me lol

Hello & thank you for recording this Winter Lecture Series! Question, are you able to use the auditorium's house audio (mult-box or similar) or are you using directional mics from the cameras?

You’re welcome. I’m using a lavaliere on the speaker and a shotgun mic on the camera. The problem was the channel that the lavaliere was on was too weak. Kept cutting out. The idea was to have the shotgun mic pointing to the audience so they would be clearer. Luckily I had that mic to redirect onto Karlton at the 2:45 mark. Shouldn’t happen again. I found a stronger signal on a different channel

1- did you watch the video of Karlton Smith’s Winter Lecture? - yes 2- what device did you watch it on? (Phone, tv, etc.)-iPhone 3- Do you require glasses? If so, did you have them on while watching? - yes to both 4- In the wide shots of Karlton, was the screen more visible than you recall it being in previous years? If so, were you able to make out the majority of the images on the screen? Yes, definitely! Dimming the front row of lights so they didn’t hit the projection area was an excellent idea! 5- If the images’ visibility wasn’t sufficient for your enjoyment of the viewing experience, would you be willing to contribute to a fund to hire an editor who would have the time to splice in said images (provided the lecturer is a) willing to share them with and b) able to get them to us in an immediate manner or a second cameraman to be present on every shoot? - the images were more than sufficient! If you had a second camera, could you post one stationary like you were and man the second? I really liked the additional footage you had Mark provide, even if I’ve been used to seeing a fade when using OBS and had to acclimate to the direct switchover. Thank you for bringing the directional mic- I wouldn’t have heard the movement when you switched to it unless it knew to listen for it. Also, THANK YOU for what you do! I loved the bonus questions at the end - very tasteful in switching to black-and-white for his responses. I did have to read the questions quickly and would have appreciated a bit more time to read them. But if that’s my only complaint, I need to stop being a whiner. Great job, Matt!

Thank you Brian! Glad you liked it. I agree on the questions. They should appear for longer. We’ll improve as we feel things out this season.

Audio is poor. Can you get the mic closer?

Yeah there was radio interference with the wireless so I had to use the shotgun mic. I’ll use a different channel for the rest. Audio improves at around the 2:45 mark
