Both my greatgrandfathers fought in Belgian Army. My mother's grandfather fought the entire war and survived without a scratch. He was conscripted his for 8 years in the army, including 4 years in the trenches! My father's grandfather also served since 1915 and was injured in 1918 during the final offensive and lost part of his hand. The sacrifes they made for their country are unbelievable.

great vid. the greatest tragedy of war is that it often teaches political leaders nothing. they care not about the sacrifice of young soldiers who are barely adults. and ,mark my words, we will repeat the cycles of wars when those who can remember the horrors of it are not strong enough to prevent it. great vid

Rob . . . great stuff! I have a Gewehr 88 that was then donated in WWI to Ottoman Army and then redone by Turkish forces in 1938. Shoots well, though, I use reduced powder charges owing to its age. Wanted to say thanks also for the advice in your videos--helped me out recently. My SAR1 hit 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 320, 400, 450, and 600 yards! Had 68 clicks (1/2 MOA each click) for 600 but it was spot on! That AK runs the Definitive Arms M4 stock adapter that I got from your store (as viewers probably know, fast shipping and great prices)--Merry Christmas!

Very interesting demo Rob ! The distance between WW1 trenches were generally around 50 to 250 yards apart with No Man's Land separating them. So in fact you have demonstrated the rationale behind the short distance between the trenches was owing to the factor of standard marksmanship training in combination with the standard issued service rifles for all combatants. Oh and GO ULLA ! great videos.

No, 400m zero was dumb is dumb and always will be dumb for the trench warfare. Man in stress (and WWI combat was extremely stressful, because most of these men were never exposed to horrors of the modern warfare) will do stupid things, especially when they received only minimal amount of training and even then, they were literally robbed from the actual shooting those rifles, because live ammo shooting practice wasn't most important thing for the high command...All those military "geniuses" ignored multiple early warning sings - Russian / Japanese war was one of them. They got hit by the "modern warfare" reality hard. Only problem is, poor dudes in the trenches paid for the higher command incompetency with their own blood...Idiots Generals went forward with their lives like nothing happened and most of the time suffered no consequences for their horrible decisions and actions...

love my old military rifles collection. it’s a working collection. I killed many deer here in America with the. i always do something stupid every year while hunting for the last 45 years. like go hunting and forget my ammunition. forget to load a muzzle loader. last week I had my Russian siaga in 308 with red dot sight and jerked my trigger. i never jerk my trigger but I did that day and missed. that’s not all the week before with my reworked and scoped Swedish Mauser 6.5 x55 shot at a trophy deer . barely cut him very little blood and tracked him to make sure. i took the rifle later on the sand bags and it wasn’t right, wasn’t as loud . big change in recoil . the third shot I saw what looked like finers in the wind after I shot . i thought oh shit I know what happens Ed . i got the wrong ammunition. i be reloaded over 42 years and have a specialty in ultra reduced center fire ammunition for special purposes. quiet and leathal . i got a scoped mosin nagant with 10 notches in the stock I cut forthe deer that reduced load took with it. it’s so ---//-- ugly of a rifle I didn’t think it mattered. any way three days ago shooting my fresh full reloads was blessed to kill a big wonderful buck deer. I guess iam getting more stupid as I get older . this season is very special because now iam a disabled hunter but not helpless. i don’t know how much longer I can hold out to hunt . but it’s 👍 ok. I’ve had a wonderful time all these years and I can teach it to the new hunters and train rifleman and women. so iam not out of the shooting game of life. i wouldn’t trade the memories for gold and silver. that’s for listening to a old fart tale of a good life.
